Smile Flowmaster Muffler Suggestions?

Well I must get rid of my aftermarket exhaust on my rx8 because it is messing up my new body kit because of heat. Does anyone have any good suggestions on a nice performace aftermarket muffler i can put on my car? I would like to modify my stock exhaust and make my car sound good. I would like a nice aggressive sound. I was thinking about flowmaster but i wasn't sure which series muffler i should get. Thanks.

Does Flowmaster make an RX8 kit? I haven't heard anything about it. The Borla, Mazdaspeed dual, and Hymee exhausts are all very popular. Search around the forum for some sound clips.

im using a 80 series crossflow flowmaster muffler. granted i dont have a rotary anymore but this model will fit rather nice. If you have a good exhaust shop they can make it work and it looks very similar to the borla setup and cost alot less.

I am just looking for something to give me a deep throaty sound. I currently have a OBX exhaust which I am happy with, but since I purchased my new Veilside Ver.1 kit I have decided to get rid of the exhaust and put the stock one back on. I was just wanting to know how to make my factory exhaust sound better. I figured a performance muffler might be the way to go.

thats what i was suggesting, cut off stock muffler and replace it with the flowmaster and add a lil pipe here and there. as far as making the stock muffler sound good thats not happening.

why would they not work on rotary? That doesn't make sense.. I am sure you saw this but I don't know why a flowmaster muffler would hurt anything.

I just looked at my factory exhaust and I do not see how a aftermarket muffler can be put on. The hangers are attached (welded) to the factory muffler.

take a look at the borla system that they have forthe rx8 , i have my flowmaster set up just like that. as i said all you need is to have some pipes bent (3) and have the shop make some hangers....very simple install and it will save a ton of weight not to mention it will keep your trunk cooler .

I think, no I don't know for sure, that the reason is in the design. Supposedly it won't reduce the sound level like it should. If I'm wrong please correct me.

Just the mention of 'Flowmaster' let's me know you may be missing the point.....

Put them on a V8, you free up the flow and get a nice, loud and grumbly sound - not so with a rotary, and even Flowmaster acknowledges it.

A rotary 'breathing free' is a nasty raspy crackle, without any hint of grumble - think pissed off weedwhacker, times 100.

I would (did) go with the Borla, it's as close to the sound you are looking for as you will find, and sounds even nicer when you eventually get a testpipe or turbo feeding it.

Why get rid of your after market wxhaust.

Just get it fixed at a muffler shop. Have them move it so it is not melting the bumper.

They can cut weld or do what ever is necessary.

That is a good point Razz1.. i need to check into that.. also could look into exhaust tips.. might find something that works.. I have a heat shield wrapped around my exhaust for precaution. Apparently that was not enough and it still bubbled up my pait (i am assuming the exhaust fumes did this). I think the heat shield worked but my exhaust tips need more length. Thank you all for the great answers.. I will need to make up my mind soon because right now the car is setting!.. luckily i have a truck I can drive..

i cant believe no one has commented yet.....
this is the bigger concern here i believe.

the only exhaust i am aware of that could be the evil doer is the TurboXS as the tips are a little short as shipped....

the OTHER possibility is that you have a cheap/urethane kit, and its gonna melt with any exhaust with large tips that come close to the body kit.

The body kit was not cheap.. thats for sure.. i purchased the veilside ver.1 kit. I was warned about this siutation and I though I had a solution. My solution did not work so now i am back to square one. I am going to try and purchase some exhaust tips and try that tomorrow.. then i will decide something if that doesn't work.

I had a 40 series Flowmaster muffler on my 8 before I finally got my HKS...it had a decent sound but because of the extreme heat, all the baffles were completely f'd. I agree with Stealth about the weedwacker sound...just recently before I swapped it out it developed the raspy crackle sound.
