Few questions

Hey all, I have some questions I was really hoping to get help with.

My car salesman (a dude who's nickname was Dumplin... ) says there's an after-market timer you can buy that works like this - after you turn your car off, lock it up and walk away, it keeps your car running for 2 minutes and shuts the engine off for you. That sounds crazy yet perfect to me. I skimmed some old threads here, did some searches and found nothing like that mentioned here or on the web. Actually I’d like to see a survey of how many people shut down there car using what method, does one exist?

Next question is I’m wanting to do some basic upgrades and plan to pretty much follow the process I took with my motorcycle, flywheel, exhaust, air filter, EPROM and so on but was curious, I'd like to put a different clutch in it, like this stage II clutch from RX8 Store.com, will it bust my engine warranty? How bout the exhaust? I'm leaning towards a Greddy SP2 but again don't want to bust my engine warranty.

How about this question, my car now has 1900+ miles on it (bought it with 100 & change), whenever I step into it at any RPM level in any gear, it sorta goes BA…WAH <--- what the engine sounds like to me :D. It responds initially, pauses, then takes off, what is that? Fuel mapping is my only guess but that doesn’t seem right. Is that rotary behavior? Also, if I give it a lot of gas after shifting to accelerate quickly, it bucks when coming off the clutch like I’m driving a stick shift for the first time. Could the flywheel and/or clutch resolve any of this?

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

the timer is called a turbo timer. it's meant to help cars with turbos cool off and will keep the car running until it reaches a certain temp. might want to check your local laws to see if it's kosher though. also, with the chip thing in our keys, you'll probably have to leave the key in the ignition or hack apart one of your extra keys for the timer to work. not sure how that works though - never had one myself!

if your aftermarket part is the direct cause of a problem, then the dealer can/will deny you warranty work on your car and you will end up footing the entire bill for a repair caused by aftermarket parts. on top of that, if your service technician/local dealer is an a-hole, they might give you a hard time about it everytime you bring in your car for service and log it into their database!

not sure about your third question. throttle response is instant for my RX!?

Well, it's not a characteristic of the 8 then, guess I'll take it to the dealer and let'em have a look. I did find the turbo timer, but it doesnt mention anything about shutting your engine off. Is it something people are using with positive results? If so, maybe I'll consider that route also. Thanks for answering my questions jowettw.

if you wanted the timer to prevent flooding, i don't think many people have gone that route. it's not really necessary unless you make VERY short trips (30 seconds) and then shut the car down. the new flashes and consumer awareness are better tools against the flooding.

i guess for a turbo timer to advertise that it shuts the car off, would be the same as advertising that a car "goes from point a to b." the company assumes that people know that a turbo timer primarily functions to shut off the car by itself. they also have really cool features like 0-60 times, 1/4 mile times, shift lights, etc. now so i guess those are more of a selling point.

p.s. i'm by no means an expert.
