Exhaust suggestions?

im thinking about gettin an aftermarket exhaust system for my 8, but i have no idea what im lookin for right now. so i was wondering if anybody had any suggestions on the matter, and im also looking for something that wont break my bank 2x over

paulsloat 01-02-2011 08:59 PM

It really depends on the sound you want. In my opinion it is between Racing beat or Borla. Both very reputable companies. Also Midpipe / catless ect. can make a difference. Really up too sound and what your looking for. Also money differences. Theres many threads on this subject.

invalidcaboose 01-02-2011 09:08 PM

ive heard borla a lot when asking about exhausts. and yeah im lookin into it now along with some other things on the site. im kinda wanting some people that have different exhausts to notice this and tell me some different things about theirs. :p

warren(silver-roxy-8) 01-02-2011 09:10 PM

youtube can be your friend when deciding on an exhaust, just keep in mind the camera quality might not do an exhaust true justice

HaydonGS 01-02-2011 09:12 PM

I have the Tanabe and it has an awesome note, but its pretty tame compared to some of the other options and I think i want something more aggressive. Just do some searches and try to hear a few in person to decide what you really want.

invalidcaboose 01-02-2011 09:14 PM

yeah ive been on youtube all day haha but the in person thing wont work i dont know anybody with an 8 near me, which is something else im trying to fix lol and i also want something pretty aggresive not too bad but something that will be felt ya know

warren(silver-roxy-8) 01-02-2011 09:21 PM

borla offers a deep tone, not necessarily in your face loud, but noticeable. also, the racing beat rev8 is supposedly an exhaust that sounds stock until you get on it, if you're looking to be kind of subtle

invalidcaboose 01-02-2011 09:24 PM

im leaning towards more noticable than subtle, so ill be looking into borla no doubt, im just gonna try to get a lot of different angles on this before i go after it

Blacknightz 01-02-2011 09:56 PM

have u decided on what u actually want?
do u want something that is off the shelf (aftermarket exhaust)?
do u want the fastest?
do u want the loudest?

paulsloat 01-02-2011 10:01 PM

^As far as i know. Hp gain is really minimal and not much of a difference between other exhausts. Unless going catless which still is not a very noticeable gain. Soo if your in this for "fastest" or hp gain per say. Your going to be very disappointed.

invalidcaboose 01-02-2011 10:09 PM

yeah i was goin for louder, i had already heard that aftermarket exhausts dont give much of a hp boost, so i was looking for something louder but like i said before something that wont break my wallet in two

paulsloat 01-02-2011 10:24 PM

borla+ BHR midpipe. or just Borla alone would be a nice, throatier, louder sound. Thats just my 2 cents. Depends on how loud you want to go. Theres plenty of very loud exhausts out there (louder than Borla).

Blacknightz 01-02-2011 10:28 PM

power and loud?
hehez...

Then go for the single sided HKS exhaust... or since u are on a budget, u may also want to check out raceroots as they are offering something similar at a cheaper price...

invalidcaboose 01-02-2011 11:09 PM

well i dont want something too loud, and ill check out the HKS/raceroots right now lol

invalidcaboose 01-03-2011 12:02 AM

so im liking the hks single side exhaust, i saw a few videos and i like the sound, and its affordable for me so that one is at the top of my list right now

memerRX8 01-03-2011 12:25 AM

hi im new, i have a gt with stock exhaust but no cat makes a good noise and throws flames whenever you pull it hard

invalidcaboose 01-03-2011 09:30 AM

lol idk what to tell you :p youll have to wait and see what some other people will say about the matter

Yeah this subject has been beaten to death but I'm not going to flame. I'm trying to turn over a new leaf for the new year. I would'nt go with the HKS, visually I think it just makes the car look unbalanced. Obviously, this is just my opinion. I like the duals. I have the GReddy SE with a high flow cat and love the tone. I also shoot flames at will. :)

invalidcaboose 01-03-2011 10:13 AM

lol thank you, i know its been talked about and talked about and more talked about but yeah and thats what i dont like about the hks, i love the duals look which is why im still looking around but i like what you say about the GReddy SE ill look it up

But...
Making a car annoyingly loud while still being slow never gets old!

Red Rex 01-03-2011 12:36 PM

I was faced with the same dilemma as you. Wanted decent sound, not too loud, and didn't want to spend a lot of money especially since aftermarket exhaust components don't add much power to the RX8. I ultimately decided on the Agency Power midpipe. Added a bit a sound (deeper with a slightly raspy midrange), wasn't obnoxiously loud (good since VA cops hate loud cars here), and I spent barely over $200. I spent time looking into cat-backs but I decided they were too much money for not a lot of benefits. And a mid-pipe will get you a lot more power than a cat-back.

invalidcaboose 01-03-2011 12:55 PM

yeah the cops here in va suck :p and really? only around 200 thats pretty nice ill have to look into midpipes more

Are you really in Honduras? Awesome.

Here is a Racing Beat Header, Custom 3" midpipe with Davesport CAT, and BHR Resonator, and the Racing Beat REV8 dual with tips pointing down.

invalidcaboose 01-03-2011 11:39 PM

that was intense lol

memerRX8 01-04-2011 11:55 AM

wooow that really sounds great wish we had the facilities here to buy that things

getemslough 01-04-2011 10:54 PM

hey boose! i have recently been suffering from the same delima as you. i decided ill be running the new style rp supercat midpipe with the rear flange nipped. in its place will be a vibrant resonator followed by 3" tubing to the diff. i will put a universal flange there and a flange and reducer on the stock exhaust. (i know how the fuzz is in va believe me man) with this set up i can run the stock axel back daily and im going for a apexi ws2 or tanabe medallion single muffler axel back for the track. i would suggest that if you get into the midpipe you run a davesport or supercat because i know they are smog testing up in your neck of the woods now. anyway... if you can hold out a couple weeks you can hear the setup in person when we swap trunks lolzies!

Chrishoky 01-04-2011 11:35 PM

Check out the Greddy SP2.. thats what I have, been running for over a year and no problems from the cops. Gives a nice, deep tone when revving, yet is perfectly tame and quiet when not. However, I have noticed if you do alot of highway driving that there is a decent amount of droan when going about 75 MPH. Just something to look into, and the muffler outlets fit the stock holes in the 8's rear bumper perfectly.

Dirt_Nasty 01-04-2011 11:38 PM

All I will say is that if you go with the HKS Hi-Power single exit, be careful which mid-pipe you combine it with as it can/most likely will be loud as hell.

If your going to go GReddy spend the couple extra bucks and get the SE. Its better quality and the SE is a newer exhaust. I did alot of research before I bought mine.

invalidcaboose 01-05-2011 11:18 PM

yeah im torn between the hks and the greddy se, i wont be buying till the summer so i have some time to pick one and ahh bro i actually decided im gonna go with no spoiler so i cant trade trunks with you, the only thing im gonna do to the look of my 8 is get my rims and maybe tint my windows and oh you should go to the NE forum and add yourslef to my post cuz this summer im trying to get a big meet started and more to follow afte that, everybody in northern va check out that post and add yourself to the list xD

Take ur time bro... There are plenty of mods to go around for the rx-8

invalidcaboose 01-06-2011 10:16 AM

oh yeah and maybe something will show up that i havent seen and i like it so patience is key haha

getemslough 01-06-2011 10:02 PM

boo on the trunk! haha no worries!

Z0oMzo0m 01-06-2011 10:17 PM

I love the sound and tone from Greddy sp2 and my agency power midpipe. But as they had said above i think the SE is the new version ans sp2 is discontinued.
I am curently testing out the raceroots single tip. It is loud with midpipe but I'm sure with the catalytic conv. It would have a very nice note to it. Its at a fair price as well.

Wert4580 01-07-2011 12:31 AM

Check out the TurboXS:

http://www.turboxs.com/item.php?ID=218

I had one on for a little bit, and am torn about it. On one hand, it sounds amazing and is very affordable for a header-back system. The tips are a perfect size and angle cut for the rear bumper - really cleans up the rear appearance. Looked to be very high quality as well, full stainless with excellent welds all around.

On the other hand, that amazing sound comes at a price - it is VERY VERY LOUD WITH THE INCLUDED RACE PIPE. Sorry for yelling, but you need to - droned like hell inside the car, unfortunately. I tried mounting the catback system, but even with a fresh gasket it wouldn't bolt up right because of the difference in pipe sizes.. This is a shame, because I test ran it like this and it sounded great. Nice tone at idle, and noticeable change without being too raucous. Leaking exhaust isn't cool though...

Anyway, what I should have done, and what I would recommend doing is running the TurboXS with a dual res midpipe - I'm confident it would sound bad-fcking-ass.

invalidcaboose 01-07-2011 09:09 AM

ill have to hear it, maybe find a video or ask someone with an 8 around here if they have one installed

phrenetiK 01-07-2011 09:19 AM

like i said earlier. HKS HKS HKS.

invalidcaboose 01-07-2011 10:23 AM

the hks is still on the top of my list so far at least

terch1 01-07-2011 11:06 AM

Like I said earlier GReddy, GReddy, GReddy. There ggggrrreeeaaaatttttt!

invalidcaboose 01-07-2011 11:21 AM

adamci24 01-19-2011 09:13 PM

Anybody have input on the Racing Beat compared to the Agency Power exhausts?
I plan on keeping my stock cat in place so I'm aware that this will affect the sound of both, but I'm looking for a sound louder than stock, but not a fart can. I like that deeper cleaner sound. Not the high pitched ricey sound. Been searching youtube, but sounds clips are so hard to judge. With the stock cat, which of these 2 exhausts would give me the sound I'm looking for?

dlum125 01-19-2011 10:24 PM

i have the agency power catback. sounds great. i love it. my friends love it. it's not annoyingly loud but it's super aggressive. went on youtube and looked up the greddy se and they sound almost the same imo. but that was just a youtube video. i have yet to hear one in person. i also really like the burnt tips, but i know some people aren't really into those. the only problem with the AP exhaust is that some people (me included) have had trouble with the tips melting the exhaust shrouds.

invalidcaboose 04-18-2011 10:25 PM

well i havent posted in here in a while ive been away haha but summer is closing in and i think i might be getting the greddy se i just have to get some good examples of sound and stuff cuz for one i still live with my parents and they arent the most accepting of people escpecially when it comes to my car they hate me doin things to it lol but i do it anyway my list for the summer is exhaust, rims, tinted windows, and to try to get my interior fixed :/ everything is popping out of the little sockets i need to get it fixed it pisses me off and secondly the cops but i think ill be fine with what im thinkin of getting and third most important is money i really need a second job cuz the one job i have pays great in the summer but winter it sucks bad :/
