Exhaust/intake Questions

I have owned my RX-8 since June 2004. I have finally decided to start replacing some of the basic factory items i.e intake and exhaust. I have found the GReddy, Borla(had it on my SVT Cobra) and Racing Beat Exhausts. Also was looking for some opinions on these and the REVI intake as well.

How is the intake noise on the K&N?

It makes the engine sound a little louder (which I love).

The typhoon is regarded as one of the noisiest if not the noiseiest intakes for the rx8. And the borla is one of the noiseies exhausts. Keep that in mind.

A good power/sound combo would be a racing beat intake and racing beat exhaust.

Is not that loud. At normal driving you bearly notice the noise. At full throtel is another story. A beautifull story, I may add.

I have the RB exhaust and I love what it did for the sound. It's almost stock inside the car when just tooling around under light load. Stand on it and it sounds great. I really didn't notice much, if any, performance increase. It think it's a great choice if you're simply looking for something to improve asthetics and not sound like a teenager's Civic.

Good luck.

Had the Racing Beat exhaust on my car & I loved it. Like the other posters said it sounds stock when tooling around town, good so as not to attract attention from the 5-0. But when you stand on it the growl sounds much better. Have read good things about the REVi intake w/ Ram Air Duct. Also take a look at the AEM unit. Heard that was quite good as well.

this is very true. I installed the racing beat exhaust on the 24th and the revi intake yesterday and i love them. I personally like the intake more because i can distinguish a totally different sound when you reallly step on it , or even just holding it around 4750-6000 rpms. I don't know about the ram air duct, I am considering buying it though.

As for performance, I really didn't notice too much for both units. But, if you do buy these systems, you will be wot a lot more often to hear the great sound.

I have the RB exhaust and I'm satisfied with it. Not as loud as I thought it would be but there is no other exhaust I've heard that sounds like it. It give the 8 a deep tone that you never get tired of hearing.

Also if you plan on buying an RP high flow cat or something of the sort in the future, I would recommend the RB because with the other exhausts the high flow cat will be much louder. Also check out the Umnitza/Simota intake, it seems pretty good to me and sounds much like the new K&N one.

Hi all,
firstly I hope you all have a excellent 2006,all the best to everyone with their RX8's

Then I also want to do my exhaust (here in South Africa) but too expensive to ship a RB one to here, will get a local one maybe, but I want to know did one of you guys (and the girls) replaced the midpipe(through pipe)removing the cat.if someone did i know that according to Racing Beat you get 10hp.My question is to those who did remove the cat for midpipe did it change the sound much or not and also did it throw flames ?
I know if the complete exhaust are done it does throw flames.

thats all I want to know.
thanks

I agree. With normal driving the intake and exhaust is not really noticeable. It isn't until you get on it where you start to hear them. It's not annoying, or buzzy. It is a very nice sound inside and out.

I have the Borla catback and it's not that loud IMO. I really haven't had any complaints about it. I'm looking into getting the AEM CAI but kind of worried about cleaning the thing (looks like you have to take the front bumper off everytime you need to clean the filter).

IMO, it's only loud if you want it to be. Go WOT and it gets loud ... and man it sounds good.

It made it quite a bit louder. I originally had the SR Motorsports hi-flow cat unit (with a resonator) with the Racing Beat exhaust (with turbo) and it threw flames, then I went to a RP Supercat & JIC Titanium cat back, it is even louder, but we were able to dial out the random backfiring (not even during de-acceleration, just random popping) completely, but not nearly as many fireballs now.

Just installed RB exhaust

I got the RB exhaust for Christmas and installed it today. So far I love it. It really sounds great. I keep thinking of reasons to go driving.

Intake and exhaust won't get much gains, like mentioned before is more of an audio mod. For performance without going FI, I think drivetrain mods deliver better performance compared to an exhaust or intake. A grippier clutch, a lighter flywheel, and a 4.7 final drive ratio would probably give you more satisfaction as far as performance goes.

i have the magnaflow cat back and it is definately louder than stock at all levels, even just driving around. the typhoon is louder as well but it sounds pretty good when you just ease the throttle up. good hunting.

GF has the JIC titanium on hers, I was shocked at how quiet it is considering it only weighs 16 lb., not much louder than the OE muffler
