Exhaust & Cold Air Intake???

Which should I do first. How much can I expect to spend. Is there anyone in southern kentucky who has an 8? which has aftermarket parts? My 8 is the only one for miles and I would like to hear one with these parts

welcome. do a search for all your answers.

In a nutshell - the RX-8 ain't no Civic, and bolt-ons like exhaust and CAI give minimal gains, if any. The things that actually do noticeable gains are a lightened flywheel, pulleys, Canzoomer upgrade, NOS, and the newly available turbo.

Pulley don't do jack...and I have a set on. The rest of the stuff will give you results. Intake, cat back exhaust & pullies will give you very little gain. I did a dyno on this a ways back. Got about 10 hp in the midrange after I installed (pullies, air intake, & hi-flow cat) but about 5 on the peak. Better off getting the Canzoomer unit & tuning it. You will get about 15 whp to 25 whp for the same price. Or a midpipe (if you do not care about emissions) will give you 6-8 hp for a few hundred $.

I live in Kentucky and every truck around here has been gutted of it's factory exaust and running straight pipes so emmisions is not as issue.
Forgive my ingorance here, what is a canzoomer unit?

Piggyback unit for the ECU (Easy understanding is it's a "chip" for the car). www.canzoomer.com. Plays with your air/fuel ratio so you can lean out the engine a bit and gain hp.

I went to canzoomer.com before I read your message. What's involved after the purchase for installation and tuning?

Installation is pretty simple. Just plug it in. Tuning will require you to log your air/fuel ratio data points with a laptop & their software and to play with the points (richen & lean) until you get the best fit for your car. For a mechanic this shouldn't be too hard.

I assume that it comes with factory preset points which will increase HP before I tune

Yes, it has preset (from CZ) that will give youo a bit of hp gain, but due to the variability of our cars you may see from 0-10 hp gain from a preset CZ unit. With tuning you will see another 5-10 hp gain from that unit.

I would do an intake first. It's cheaper and it will give your car a nice sound depending on which you get. Which intakes were you thinking of?

Seeing as the OP hasn't been here in years, I doubt he is going to reply to you.
