Exhaust For Brand New 8

Hey guys I'm new to this forum and i have a couple of exhaust questions.
I just picked up a brand new 04 Rx8 and traded in my 02 Acura Rsx Type-S. I am familiar with exhausts and brands...I know HKS,Greddy are tip top brands......I see that most people like other brands on this forum....i am looking for a nice loud exhaust that looks good.........i don't know to much about how exhuasts' sound on Rx8's because theres not enough sound clips floating around........i was wondering if anyone has it and likes it i had the Tanabe Super Racing Medallion on my rsx and it was the best choice so.....i don['t wanna spend a lot of money on an exhast that is to quiet or i don't like the sound.............just leave me with some opinons on the greddy, hks,, borla and the r & b i believe........thanks!! My name is Billy

The one's you have listed probably all sound relatively the same. I would base it on cost. However, Racing Beat has a very good reputation with rotary engines so you may want to put them at the top. If cost wasn't a factor, get the HKS.

Congrats on the purchase. :D

As well it should be...

Just so you know, rotaries sound different from pistons. That popping noise on some clips/videos is natural. Just part of the territory, much like that groovy whine rotaries make.

And, if you can find video (does anyone have a clip, cause I the only one i can find on the forum is a DEAD LINK), you'll see the borla shoots flames if you run the car the right way

But, I'm voting on the Racing Beat exhaust. When I land a steady job, it's on my list.

Have not seen Racingbeat in real life but it is all good and easy to get in US - I will look at it first.

If you are JDM follower: There are good exhuast to choose from and can explore it a bit with RX-7 mag or RX-8 hyperrev mag. Order via US or from Japan www.news-pub.com

After reading all those mag: The Japanese put - R Magic, RE Amemiya, HKS, Trust/Greddy. I chose Fujitsubo as I want a quiet one. The loudest of them all: BuddyClub and Apexi

I chose to install a HKS on my 8 since I had good experiences with the brand on my last two rides.

If it's anything to go by, people 200 metres down the street turn their heads to look as you are approaching.

So needless to say, it's f**kin loud (only above 6000rpms though, below that, it sounds almost stock)

Personally this is my recommendation if you are any of the following :

1.A hoon;
2.Like to break necks;
3.Cashed up;
4.And most importantly, enjoy "spirited" driving

Good luck!

I hear that is the key to getting the HKS :P

As nojooc said, it sounds almost stock below 6000. I think that is the consensus with the exhaust available now. Below 6,000, it is quiet. When you rev up, is when you hear it. If you want noise blow 6K, get an intake, as those are pretty damn loud. Ask xxdevilzeroxx about his

I have billy boat performance exhaust. Definitely a high pitched tone and pretty loud.
I love the sound. Some people bring it down 'it sounds like a civic' but rx-8 simply can't sound like civic due to its rotary nature. My friends say its the best sounding exhaust they've heard after stock M3 at high rpm...well I highly recommend B&B.

so what are your opinions on the Greddy SP............??? I also do not want to drownd the rotary engine whine with an over baring exhaust tone.........so r&B seems to be the best........let me know!!! and what are opinions on the K & N intake.?

If you want to make a lot of noise then you should seriously start with an intake. The K&N is insanely loud.

As for the exhaust I have heard the Borla, B&B, and Racing Beat in person. The RB is the quietest by far and it has a smooth deep growl. Very sweet! The B&B is on the opposite extreme. It is much louder and has a higher pitched metallic rasp. When combined with an intake it sounds very menacing under full throttle. The Borla is closer to the RB in sound. It has deeper tone than stock. It is louder than the RB but quieter than the B&B. Each exhaust has a distinct sound and in your case I'd tell you to go for the B&B with an intake.

You can download the flaming Borla video from my website.

Thanx for all the input.........nojooc chose to install the HKS........i know HKS its top quality stuff.......but the price is insane.......i searched around just a little bit and most prices are near 1,000 bills which is extremely pricey for a ''cat back'' exhaust.......its not even titanium or anything.........so would you guys recomend saving up for that or is it not worth it???????? and with any one of those exhuats' plus and intake is there going to be a noticeable differnce in power??????.........becasue i put a tanabe super racing medallion cat back exhaust and aem cold air intake on my Rsx Type-S and it was so noticeable........... please let me know

I like HKS, I think there products are top notch, but I would not spend $800-$1000 for their cat back exhaust when I can get other top notch products (Racing Beat, Mazda Speed, etc) for several hundred $ less. Like you said if you are going to drop a $1000 on an exhaust, you might as well drop another $200 ($1200) and get the full titanium unit. If you get the exhaust & intake, you might notice a little more up top, but probably nothing in the low & middle of the rev range.

I just got a JIC exhaust installed and I'm happy. It's not as loud as some of the others. I would say it's similiar to the Borla in sound. I'm getting the K&N intake installed tonight. I'll see if I can record the exhaust BEFORE I get the intake installed. That way you can see the difference. From what I've read, the K&N is supposed to be LOUD...even without the exhaust making any sound.

I just completed my exhaust a few days ago and intake was done today. All I can say is, DAMN IT'S LOUD! Originally, I liked the JIC deep sound, but wanted something a little more volume...well the K&N intake is OVERBOARD. My car sounds like some loud annoying ricer, but the exhaust makes up for it a little....I'm considering removing the K&N or maybe getting a smaller filter (I read this helps lower the sound)...it's almost as loud as my neighbors Harley...well not that loud, but it's LOUD. :p

The green air filter adds a little sound, but almost none, but increases air flow and is a drop in replacement for the OEM filter.

It runs about $60-70
