1st - 3.760 * 4.444 = 16.7094
2nd - 2.269 * 4.444 = 10.0834
3rd - 1.651 * 4.444 = 7.3370
4th - 1.187 * 4.444 = 5.27503
5th - 1.000 * 4.444 = 4.44400
6th - 0.843 * 4.444 = 3.74629

It's an overdrive. Some people wish for it to go even further, but NA, you will not have much power to move if you needed to.

Are you sure you're doing 8,000 rpm in 6th?

I definitely don't think you're sitting at 8k RPMs in sixth gear.

I am one of those people. 6th kills me, and I keep grabbing for 7th. I have never been in a car where the OD rest at 4K at 75MPH. OD in my opinion is not a power gear, it is a cruise gear for steaming ahead at a constant speed. The argument for more power in an N/A doesn't make sense to me, because if you want to pass, down shift. There have been plenty of other cars out there with far less power that have a true OD.

It bothers me so much that I don't think I would have purchased the car had I been more aware of it. It's really my only complaint so far, but it does feel enormous at times.

It depends on how you look at it. The engine only spins at 1/3rd the transmission speed, so your engine is really 1,300 rpm at 4k.

If you're really that upset with it, I hear you can get a replacement final drive

I'd like to point out that even if my rpms are higher than most other sports cars in its final gear, going on the highway...

The RX-8 engine noise is still 10x quieter.

Cool What's the use.....

My question would be what is the point of 5th?

I accelerate at an on-ramp 1,2,3 then pop into 6th for "cruise" mode. If I need to overtake, 5th ain't gonna do it, it's 4th or even 3rd, since 5th is also useless for acceleration.....

Actually the engine spins 1:1 with the transmission main shaft, but the rotors orbit at 1/3 the crank shaft rotation.

I think the real problem lies within the Diff. I think the perfect combination would be to install a 4.1:1 Diff with a shorter close ratio first gear so that you don't loose the ability to break the tires loose, yet you still lower your overal cruise RPMs.

Or, just get rid of the gears all together.

The real difference would be if the car came turbocharged, then nothing else would matter because who would care.

i think u put it in Reverse instead of 6th, cuz i once hit 8500rpm on 6th gear and it was FAST!....not safe but i did it at 3am on the middle of long *** highway with there is 18th wheelers only.

I agree %100. 5th is useless and I'm always going from 4th to 6th

The rotors are the combustion chamber. Thus the engine spins at 1/3rd speed. The eccentric shaft doesn't count as an engine.

The only thing that counts is the eccentric shaft speed.

Nope, it's usually in 5th gear by that speed. Every once in a while I'll drive around in Brillo's car and I get up there pretty early. He always looks over at the tach when I do it!

dunno if this means anything but you gotta take into account the redline differences too... ZO6 redline is 7k rpm. So just to do ratios let's say 80 in 6th for rx8 is 4500 rpms (45 x 100) and the ZO6 is at 3000 rpms (30 x 100).

45/90 would be ratio of rpms to redline for the rx8
30/70 would be ratio of rpms to redline for the ZO6

difference between those is 1/14th... it's a noticeable difference, but not as much of a problem as you make it out to be (sorry if math was wrong or irrelevant)
