difference between cf and fiberglass?

so this may seem like a stupid question to some of you but i was looking at hoods for my 8 and was wondering what's the difference between fiberglass and carbon fiber? can you get a fiberglass hood and just put it on how it is like carbon fiber? or does it come black and you have to have it painted the color you want it?

cf is lighter and much stronger. but any cf hood you buy is going to be fiberglass with a layer of cf on top of it. this is for 2 reasons. if it was solid cf and you got into an accident, the hood would decapitate you. and the second (more reasonable reason) is price. fiberglass is cheaper.

other way around.

cf will be shiny cf (gray-black) and already clearcoated. fiberglass will come primered either in gray or green or some other outlandish color.

I wonder what will happen if I have a Bumper thats made of CF. if I am in an accident will the bumper crush all my front and squeeze me into a jello sandwich ?

no, the frame of your car will keep you safe. the hood though its quite possible will just slide right up. the front bumper cover is designed to bend to let the impact be taken by the 5mph bumper. so small impacts will jar a lot more, impacts at greater speeds the cf might shatter but the initial impact will still be a lot more jarring.

cf does not bend. when it reaches a certain point it just breaks.
