Did the Supercat get re-designed? Mine doesn't look like the one on the website.

I just received my Supercat yesterday and it doesn't look like the picture they have on the Rotary Performance website. Can anyone confirm that I got the right item? Have they just updated the design to make it look like a stock cat or what?

Thanks

Interesting, maybe they redesigned since the older ones had somewhat of a failure rate? If so I wonder if anyone can compare dyno runs between the two.

It's right. Mine is the same way. That's the second generation one because the first ones failed out the ***.

And the 2nd design fails too. It's just that we don't have enough data on the failre rate on it yet.

Maybe a silly question, but does this revised model throw CEL's or not. I remember a lot of users complaining that it was a crap shoot with the original on if a CEL would get thrown.

the picture on the site is of their original design (i believe). It's looked like yours for about 3 years now or so.

Mine never threw a CEL and now with my AP it never will.

thanks guys. I just wanted to be sure I got the correct $400 piece of metal. haha

Now I just have to hope I can install it myself without too much trouble. I should probably buy a new rear gasket huh? I figured the "gasket set" that I paid for would come with a gasket for each end. Bummer

does anyone know if I'll need to purchase a new gasket for the rear of this supercat pipe? I have a stock exhaust system right now and I'm wondering if I'll be able to re-use the gasket that's already there but I was under the car earlier and the rear end of the stock midpipe looks different than the rear of the supercat.

Basically my question is.....will this supercat bolt up directly to my stock exhaust system without needing a different gasket on the rear end of the supercat?

Thanks!

it should bolt right up, I don't remember having to get a new rear gasket. You should be able to re-use the gasket that's there already.

Well I was able to install the supercat by myself. I just re-used the doughnut gasket on the rear of the pipe. Everything lined up well with the stock exhaust. No leaks! Next step.....replace the rear end of the exhaust system.

Everything bolts up perfectly unless you own my car. Then none of it works. lol

well....I must say, I don't really hear a difference in sound. But maybe the damn K&N Typhoon 2 is drowning it out. I really need to start searching for a stock air box.

What exhaust system do you have? Stock? I dont think you would hear much of a difference with the stock exhaust and the RP cat .

My RP supercat failed recently. It is a similar design to your (I bought mine used) and it failed somewhere near after 20,000 miles on my car. It hasn't thrown a CEL yet, so I guess I'll keep this one around for track days. The fumes are a bit much for my wife.

Weird that looks just like my old SR midpipe (except the cat housing was empty).

Just for education sake, do you know why the cat wouldn't throw a CEL if it failed, i never understood that

I'm not too sure, but I've heard there are a few cars with oxygen sensors that don't throw a CEL. Maybe they fail in an open or closed state and luckily(?) it doesn't send a bad signal. I guess the other option is that the exhaust is actually clean enough?

I did have some issues early on with my OEM cat that was replaced by warranty; it took them quite a long time to find my problem because there was no CEL to clue them to the cat. It took about 2 weeks to find it. I replaced it with my hi-flow cat about 10-15k miles after it was replaced.
