How come nobody has started custom fabricating some turbochargers, intercoolers, or other parts( I know it's hard so don't bite my head off) But does anyone no anybody who could do that cause man the demand is high and the supply is low they would make a killing, anybody who can do it give me a shout, because I don't have my one shop yet and don't have access to all the rigth tools yet.

 

Please don't think I am "biting your head off". I'm not, just explaining why you don't see people doing it. I have fabbed up my own systems in the past but they were for my RX-7's. I don't have an 8 but if i did you can bet I will make my own parts. The problem with making a kit yourself with the intention of selling them is first of all, warranty issues. What will you do when someone blows up their car and blames it on you? While most failures are the results of user and not manufacturer error, this still doesn't stop people from blaming the maker. Second, if you aren't a big company and are building these one at a time, how long will it take you to get all the orders processed if you get any? I have the ability to build things for others but lack the time. Third, how much money do you intend to make off of every one? Even if a kit only cost you $600-$700 (if you are extremely lucky but probably much higher!) to make, how much are you willing to sell it for? It takes time and effort to get everything fabbed up and you want to not only get back your initial investment but also make enough to be worth the effort and pay for the materials for the next kit. You had better price it for at least twice what you paid to build it. It is only fair. Time is money. Personally I wouldn't build anyone a kit for under $1500 even if they brought me all the materials. So now you have a kit that you can sell for $2000 but probably much more. Why would anyone buy a one off kit from an individual when they can pay around the same price or a little more and get one from a known company that actually has customer service after the sale? No one would buy it. If you want to build kits then do it for yourself and maybe your closest friends but don't plan on getting rich here doing it. You'd see everyone trying if you could. People complain about kit prices because they only look at value in terms of physical parts value. The complainers don't care how much time and effort is put into making a kit and designing a kit that works really well. Too many people think that their money on labor is just money going into those peoples pockets and that they shouldn't be responsible for paying them directly. The truth is that you are paying their salaries and their time is worth it. If it wasn't, they would be making them. Anyone can slap a turbo on any car. Not everyone can make it look good and function great.

 

so has anyone fabricated a turbocharger or some other parts for the 8 and if they have please give some details so the rest of us can do it to.

 

Do a search for the acosta racing rx8...and also look at the toyko auto salon pics........

 

There are at least a half a dozen companies that are very close to coming out with kits. Search this forum, you'll see. And there are a few manufacturers that have already done some serious mods... Acosta Racing swapped in an 800 HP 3 rotor turbo, and SSR Engineering has a turbo kit on sale now.

Problem is, the '8 is just too new to the market... it always takes the aftermarket 9-12 months to catch up with any new vehicle released.

on your site it says "*for off road use only" does that mean that the kit isn't street legal or is it talking about that last part?

 

its doubtful there's ever going to be a street legal FI kit for the 8. it already walks a fine line.

BTW: what kinda numbers are you guys gettin with that kit?
