Cobb Accessport and my warranty

Okay, I've searched and read so don't flame me - I'm well aware that Mazda could void my warranty if they new that I installed a Cobb AP. My only question is, how would they know if I didn't tell them. I definitely don't want to void my warranty, and I know that you can uninstall it before I make a trip to the delearship, but what if I'm driving down the road and my engine siezes and therefore I can't uninstall it before it gets to the delearship - would they know it was there if I didn't tell them?

I haven't bought it yet, and I have tried to get a response from Cobb and MM already on this question with no success so I'm wondering if any of you have an informed answer on this. Thanks!

your engine just won't seize randomly..

and your car just needs to have power for about 5 minutes to reflash.. the car doesn't even need to be on

yeah, as long as you can get power to the pcm, you can uninstall the ap.

most likely it is a long shot if your engine actually seizes. I seriously would not worry about it.

Okay, so I guess my confusion comes from the videos I've watched on installing the AP where you have to turn the ignition on and off, and I thought start the car as well. Thanks for the info.

One more stupid question - Is my 40th Ann map the same, or does the latest map from Cobb work on it like the rest of the '08's?

Thanks!

don't use the Cobb maps, they're junk. Buy your AP from Mazdamaniac so you can get custom maps for your car

I wouldn't say the cobb maps are junk, just extremely conservative....I'm sure they don't want to have blown motors on their heads.....lol. But at this point, as Jedi mentioned, MM is the person to go thru for buying the AP, since he provides a free custom calibration service to his customers. That way you can get a custom tune that will extract the most HP as well as add longevity to your engine. Check those links robrecht posted. ;)

Okay, I bought one through Mazda Maniac. Thanks for the help!

i took my car into the dealer last week to get my coils replaced among other things under warranty but they refused to do any work since there were no codes pending. i uninstalled my ap just before taking it in so i think that reset everything. now to prove my coils are bad i have to drive it for awhile without the ap so they can read the misfires before they will actually test and replace them. not a good experience.

That sucks Dondo sorry to hear,,,

dondo 02-11-2009 10:43 PM

yeah i gave them my ride for a bunch of warranty issues while i was out east and they didnt fix any of them due to no codes.. no i have to drive around a bunch and try again later.. at least he believed that i thought there were problems...
