Not sure why i'm intrigued with these. I feel there really isn't a reason to have one but....I still kinda want one. Are they relatively easy to install? EDIT: oh, i'm guessing ebay? tons of these things for nxt to nothing. |
i was gona get one of those too
how are they? |
I have a black powdercoated Greddy one for sale if any wants it. :dunno:
I'm not giving it away, but................... https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-parts-sale-wanted-44/f-s-various-stuff-163778/ |
yea i was looking at yours, but too expensive.
|
they are cheap on ebay
|
Then by all means, buy them on Ebay............I don't need the money nor the headache. :beer05:
If you were local and wanted it, I would probably just give it to you and help ya put it in. |
Dang Maz, looks like I not only missed out on that but some other stuff :(

Here is mine. After I installed the catch can I have noticed my intake got a bit louder. Is this right?

^ I Bought the cach can from ebay. To mount it at the airbox tray I just bought a corner brace (the largest size they have) from Wallmart. You can find this kind of things at the hardware department. I also had to make the holes bigger so the screws can go through.

Bringing this one back at the request of Mazurfer.
I finished up my install of a catch can today. I started with the Weapon R catch can kit for the Mazda RX-8 but then changed it up a little bit. I did this because I wanted an OEM appearance in my engine bay and the polished aluminum finish on the catch can wasn't going to do that. I removed the Weapon R emblem and then dropped it off to get it powdercoated flat black. Once I got it back I decided I hated the hose Weapon R provided so I went and got some hose from a local parts store. The hose I got was just a LITTLE too small for what it was being connected to but I did that for a reason as I don't like the look of clamps in an engine bay and this was the way to avoid that. It took a little force to get them on but they are NOT coming off, I didn't need clamps, and they aren't stretching much at all so I'm not worried about them tearing. I hated the way breather filters looked so I routed some extra hose back to the intake and zip-tied it under the strut tower bar to clean up the appearance some. Because of the size of the can I don't think I'll have to worry about oil being sucked into the intake but that's speculation. Anyways, here are the pictures: Attachment 261052 Nice and stealthy, just like I want it! Attachment 261053 Here you can see how I routed the hoses. I over-sized the one going back to the intake just a little so I could route it under the strut tower bar and use zip-ties to keep it in place. You can see it, but it's not as bad as it could have been. Attachment 261054 Close up of the catch can itself. It had a Weapon R emblem on the top of it but I removed it. It was only held on by tape so it just took a little time convincing it with a razor blade to come off. Attachment 261055 Here you can see how and where I zip-tied it. |
^..............like I said in the other thread.
Looks good! I expected it to stick out like a sore thumb for some reason, and it clearly does not. |

got the same kind as tza0001 from ebay, silver instead of red. was kind of a pain to install as the hardware they give to mount it really doesn't sync up with any place you could actually put it and it's pretty tall. I ended up having to go to Lowe's to get a steel shelving support and sawing that into pieces that I could actually use. once I get a few days off I'll probly take a metal file and some black spray paint to the mount so it doesn't look so out of place.

9krpmrx8 that just look like mine, but i bought the black one, so far its work fine :)

I feel like odd man out here. Why hasn't anyone else used the open hole on the intake manifold for mounting?
https://www.rx8club.com/attachment.p...1&d=1269832211 My can is the same as the red ebay one... just in black. Still am deciding on a solution for shortening the breather hose. |
anyone got pics of a catch can on an 06+ rx8? even with the different hose setup?
|
^ i think there's no different on 04-08 model, just a matter where to mount the can and the hose setup..
ShellDude if i recall you can use the breather without the hose.. |
In hindsight if I reversed the hoses going into my can I could probably get my breather to mount right up.... Just need to spend a couple minutes on it.

the 06 and up models dont have the hose running from the intake to the oil there 2 different sets running somewhere else so its not such an easy set up
