anyone have some pics they dont mind posting of their catch can set ups? just looking for some ideas on how to do mine. thanks.

Vyndictive 01-04-2009 10:33 PM

Yea, this is something that would be helpful... I'm surprised there isn't more information on these in the forums.
Brands, price, capacities, breathers, etc....

staticlag 01-04-2009 10:39 PM

thread moved to aftermarket performance section.

I did the Home Depot Special - and mouted it on the air pump bracket - I have pics around here somewhere.

r0tor 01-05-2009 06:57 AM

i made one out of a piece of 3" PVC pipe and a couple end caps and some fittings.... also mounted it to theair pump pump bracket

I found all the fancy catch cans to be too big to mount anywhere in a stock engine compartment without a large amount of work

That's the CF can that Fluid Motorsports is selling. Pretty much that location and over by the washer fluid are the only two places you can use.

Vyndictive 01-05-2009 07:45 AM

Yeah, when your catch can is a spare oil drum. . . I bet some have found some interesting mounting locations.

Looks good RK. :)

04RX8man 01-05-2009 07:36 PM

Oh man that bud light bottle is perfect talk about custom engine bay!

TheGreatLouisianaRoadkill 01-05-2009 11:33 PM

yeah but i constantly clean them when im on the road and I get a bug on or something

Blackout04RX 01-07-2009 11:40 PM

I do love the battery relocate though. I want so much to get the battery out of my hood compartment, it is just huge under there. The damn thing looks almost as big as the engine when you pop the hood.

SiLVeRE8 01-07-2009 11:54 PM

these pics give good ideas on where to mount the catch cans

These all just for appearance or is there any functional value to them in a daily driver?

Excellent cheap mod(realitively speacking) for FI people,,, helps with keeping small levels of oil blowing through the intake vac line

Rotr8 01-10-2009 03:31 PM

very nice Mazurfer!!! I think I'll order mine today...

FI or NA - it is a good mod as your oil vapors from the motor have to go somewhere... they can go to a can; or into your intake.... you pick.

For FI - it is more of an issue as the oil vent nipple see's positive pressure relative to the negative pressure of the intake manifold.

Mazurfer 01-10-2009 03:34 PM

Mine's not Carbon Fiber like the others, mine's just blue...........as I have this blue thing going on with my car. :uhh:
I could only come up with three places to mount it. Where I did, where TGLRK(TheGreatLouisianaRoadKill) and RK did, or maybe in front of the alternator and attach to the back of the intake box.
I choose not to mount it where they did as I thought it might make it even harder to get to the damn dipstick! :banghead:

yep sure is :D its a really nice can. i like it since its smaller than a lot of the other cans out there, so it made finding a sport, sorta, easy lol. instaling it is a breez. the hardest part was finding a spot. thanks to RK for the pics.

That's a DIY "mazsport" cans. Bought the cans for $60 each, i'm working on the windshield washer one on the left. The center one is for 2-stroke oil. The car is 1/2 apart, I was installing a new turbo kit, will take new pics when done.

gregs 01-11-2009 12:45 PM

^^^where did you get the cans at that cheap?

m4f1050 01-11-2009 02:17 PM

Murray's Speed & Custom Shop.

These are chrome, and lucky me they came with burgundy caps. :)

04RX8man 01-11-2009 02:43 PM

^oh they sell that 3 canister at murray's? Ill have to stop in there tomorrow after school! do they have any other color caps? or just burgandy?

Does anyone have pics of the Weapon R catch can installed. They have one for the RX-8 but can not figure out where it is mounted

I believe the Weapon R goes where Mazurfer has it and I've highlighted where I think the second flange goes

I have no clue if it has different caps. I needed burgundy so I got 3 of them, they could be easily painted though...
They sell the canisters individually. I bought 3 of them. $180 + tax.

ferg 01-12-2009 07:52 PM

who has a good Catch Can DIY

05rex8 01-12-2009 10:30 PM

^just look at the pics, it's simple.

darnellm 01-13-2009 11:58 AM

Rotr8, thanks for the response. I like that location as it still allows the battery to be relocated to the windsheid washer tank. looks like you have moddied your 8 nicely. There seems to be alot of rx-8s in the Baltimore, I am in No Va. How about Columbia for central location for a meet?

Rotr8 01-15-2009 10:10 PM

There is a Columbia meet already established, long time ago by the 7s and now us 8s go too. Its at the Columia FuddRuckers... Its a monthly meet and Ive been twice now... Search in the recent MD people or Ty his screenname is 8newbieTy I think....

krijpipudht 03-02-2009 02:00 AM

That 3 cans setup look so cool!

Oh....you really don't know me very well. :lol2:

Anyway, see the bracket circled in green. The Fluid Motorsports comes with that bracket that has a twist in it for mounting, and in this picture you can see it's mounted to the bolt on the airpump. The twist is right underneath where the wire bundle crosses it as well as where the large blue grounding wire runs. I slipped the bracket underneath the wires for a cleaner look.
