Question Boston RX-8 Driver Needs Re-education

Hey guys, havn't been on the board for a while......got a little dismal over my car (poor little thing) a few months back when the only good news was that the canzoomer had a few good runs with no definate dyno results and we had some really good looking exterior mods availible. Today I've come back to the board and it seems like theres a little more hope for the power and performance of our beloved 8 (which although may not be the fastest out there, still the best looking :D ). I scanned through and saw definite news of FI within the next 6 months, some new ecu upgrades that were news to my ears, and a whole load of new things on the way. Can someone fill me in with whats going on, where the definate power upgrades can be found (and bought cause its needed at this point), and where this cars performance is headed in the near future. Thanks guys and I'm definately glad to be back!

If you just dropped in a CZ without tuning it, you aren't going to get much for your money. Other ECU replacements/piggybacks aren't going to help more than your CZ will, assuming you tune your CZ properly. Look at this page for info on how to tune it: http://tyrannical.org/page-15

Until FI is readly available, your CZ is really the only current route to take for more power (besides minor gains from pullies, flywheel, etc)

I also noticed the sticky exhaust article above.......22hp from the greddy catback? seems hard to believe....can anyone verify that with a dyno and is it really a feasible number? Any help with my posting above would be great too, didnt want to start an exhaust post just a general performance, been out of the loop for a while.

You wont get 22 HP from any Exhaust by itself. A friend of mine lost power with the Greddy. Expect <0 to 3-4 HP. Check out the Charles Hill threads on Nitrous.

He did a dyno run before after changing out the exhaust, and lost HP after changing out the exhaust?

Stock market is up and gas prices and unemployment are down. Sorry, I couldn't resist. Hopefully, when the ECU is cracked or there is a true ECU replacement there will be many more items available. Until then all we can really do is just wait.

From Racing Beat, they have tested several exhausts on the market and all of them give little to no gain in hp. Best you can get is about 3-4 hp, on one of the units that they tested they did in fact lose hp. Even taking off the mufflers the maximum gain was 4 hp. No way 22 hp is attainable with exhaust, or even full exhaust alone. With midpipe (removing the cat. & resonator) & exhaust you will get maybe 8-10 hp.

There are decent exhaust systems out there...I think you have your expectations set too high. Racing Beat found less than a 10 HP gain I believe even with the exhaust completely removed.
