borla vs hks catback

i know its hard to compare the two since hks is twice as much as borla, but what is the performance gain of hks over the borla? also does anyone have a sound clip of the hks? last question is an opinion question: who thinks the hks is worth the extra money?

Most people agree my HKS catback on my RX-7 sounds very nice. I want to make a recording of it sometime. Luckily the previous owner had payed for it -- not me! :D

Does the HKS have a million mile warranty? Also, how much does it weigh versus the Borla? Stock exhaust is 38 Lbs, Borla is 33 Lbs. And finally, how much does the HKS cost versus the Borla's ~ $550 price?

All things that might be worth considering...

I didn't know this was brand wars . Since I'm poor and cheap, I'd go with the Borla. I hear the HKS exhausts are pretty loud. If you want to spend the kind of money to get that loud, droning, ricer sound, then go for it. It's kind of weird to compare two parts that do pretty much the same thing. The HKS is loud, while the Borla is cheap. Hmm. Loud? Cheap? I know, try the RB exhaust . I really dislike brand wars . BTW, I don't think you're going to get any significant power gains (50 rwhp, I wish :o ) with either system.

Borla sux....HKS is really good in quality but too low tone just makes me go 'what the..'
I think the B&B has the nicest sound and pretty good looking tips and all.

Based on the facts and evidence you brought up, I'm going to have to disagree about borla sucking.

I go "what the.." every time a civic with a 200 decibel garbage can exhaust drones by me.

so how does the Borla sound? I'm not into the loud sound, but what I would like is the sound you feel and not hear.

The borla can vary. Sometimes I feel like it's too loud, other times I feel like it's too soft.

You can definitely feel and hear the grumble, a lot more from the rear of the car than from inside.

My only complaint is that sometimes when I'm just accelerating (not very fast), some ricers will think I'm trying to race them and blow by me in their 1980 honda. I don't think this is a problem specific to the borla though.

Anyone know of a brand that mimicks the factory exhaust note but slightly louder. I'm not trying to sound like an Indy car or anything. Just dig the tone, wish it was a bit louder though...

I would have to agree. The MS exhaust is pretty close to stock soundwise. If you want something that is close to stock, but can get someones attention when you step on it then go for the MS.

The quality of the HKS exhaust will far surpass the quality of the borla exhaust (hince the price difference) not only the quality but coming from japan will up the price.

from HKS site...

"Legamax and Sport Exhaust Systems are designed to reduce backpressure and increase exhaust flow for greater peak power and a broader torque band. Each Legamax and Sport Exhaust application utilizes a specific muffler design and shape along with the appropriate piping diameter to maintain low-end torque while maximizing high-end horsepower. All Legamax systems are made from polished SUS304 stainless steel piping."

im not saying the borla is bad at all. I myself prefer japanese parts.

Thanks for pointing out their marketing hype. If you take a minute and look at Borla's website you'll see that they brag about the same things. If you want to spend twice as much for the HKS name, go for it.

ugh... If someone would have done a search you would have seen and heard the stock vs GReddy vs HKS exhaust.

The HKS is not loud at all.

Please get your facts straight. Borla is more rice than HKS. And Borla is louder than HKS.

I didn't mean to start an exhaust war again. I don't care if it's either of those two. I'm just looking for something that's not loud but deep. I don't want my 8 to be a lawnmower. I wish they had some sounds on their websites like Harley Davidson. Anyone with something positive ?

Thats a high quality bump... but you have to give props to him for using search and not just making a new thread I guess.
