Boombop Shop Catback

I've been looking for a catback for a while, but I never felt I could justify the huge price for almost no performance gain. I still looked around all the time looking for good deals and sales and all that, when I stumbled upon a company with a funny name. It was stainless steel, canister style mufflers, and titanium tipped for quite a bit less than most catbacks. Could this be too good to be true? I figured it was, and forgot about it.

A while later I saw a few threads about some people on here buying and actually liking ebay exhausts, and I figured what the heck, I'll try the funny name one. So I bought it and it was here in about a week, which surpised me because I'm stationed in Germany and big stuff like that usually takes a while.

Well this is getting long so I'll just get to the point. It sounds good. I've gotten nothing but compliments on it, most people say it sounds very deep and growly at low rpm's, and up high it sounds like a possessed, high-strung 4 cylinder mixed with a V12 (thats what one person said!). All in all I am very happy with it. The first week or so it was very boomy sounding at low rpm, if that makes sense, but its mellowed out a bit to a nice growly sound.

Combined with the AP dr midpipe, it is very loud. Its not unbearable, but it will definitely get you noticed, no way around it. Unfortunately it does drone a bit, mostly around 3000 rpm, but I think thats more of the midpipe's fault. Lastly, the ride side tip is a little bit offcenter, which bugs me, but you probably wouldn't notice it unless it was pointed out.

I can't compare it to any other exhaust because I've never heard another Renesis with a catback. I can compare it to a RX7 with a big can on the end (I don't know what brand exhaust it is) and I'd say its about the same volume. I'm going to get some videos soon, but I don't think that any video does justice to a rotary, as mine sounds much better in person than almost any video I've seen.

Here's a link to the exhaust: http://www.theboombopshop.com/OEM-Ca...p-100-1001.htm

I don't have any pics up yet, I'm going to wash the car today or tomorrow and get some pics with it clean.

Flow, design, and quality is what separates the ebay exhausts with the ones from reputable vendors.

I agree for the most part, and I don't plan on staying with this for long. I just wanted to see how the "lesser" brands compare and so far I am impressed. I'm no engineer or anything, but from what I can see/tell the flow paths look fine. The welds were admittedly not the best I've seen, but I wouldn't consider any of them outright bad or shoddy.

Also, I wanted to point out that I got this to try something new, something I hadn't seen on the forums before. I would recommend it to someone looking for a good quality exhaust for cheap, but if you can afford a top dollar system, I would say go for that.

Oops I kinda forgot about this thread lol, so here's a semi-official update.

I've had it on for about 2 months now and its settled to what I'm thinking is its set tone. Its very growly at low RPMs and sounds great! The Agency Power midpipe rasp (anyone with an AP pipe knows what I'm talking about) has mellowed a bit and isn't nearly as annoying. I'm still thinking about switching out midpipes or getting a Davesport cat though. It screams awesomely at high rpms and I've gotten nothing but compliments on it.

It still is pretty loud though, loud enough that I can't even believe I was considering a HKS Hi-Power. I honestly thought that it would sound similar to stock, maybe a tad louder, but its up there with the full turbo-back STI's and Skylines I play with around here.

The only thing I don't like is the right side tip sits higher than the left, which I noted in the first post. Nobody notices is unless I point it out, but it bugs me every time I wash it!!!

I'm definitely gonna get some videos this weekend, hopefully the weather will clear up. If not, oh well, it'll just be a wet video. In the end, I HIGHLY recommend this exhaust, I love it.

Not a real TI tip, just colored similar which is easily done to stainless steel. Real TI doesn't weld to steel worth a damn. That aside, the exhaust looks pretty dope.

It's lasted for a few months through some intense rain and snow already, so I have no doubts it'll last through the summer. I actually pulled it off today as I was checking the sway bar and except for a little dirt it looks almost brand new.

Here's some videos (finally!). They're not very good, but they get the point across...

I love the people that condemn unknown brands. At one point, Agency Power was an unknown brand. So was HKS. Not knowing about this piece in particular, i can't comment on it. But all brands that are now something, started from nothing.

I had to take those vids on base, so I couldn't get on it too much as the speed limit is 30km. I only got it up to about 7k rpm at the highest too. I'm gonna find a street somewhere where I can really get on it and show it at its best.

sounds, and looks great! plus i am really not a fan of how big the tips are on most of the authentic brands. the tips on this exhaust are only 3.5 inches. looks much better imo

install went smooth, but they will melt the shrouds where the exhaust enters them. you cannot see it unless you get down and look for it. however, for the first week or so you will sure smell it.

Anyone have this exhaust installed with a high flow cat instead of a mid pipe? I have a high flow cat and was thinking of buying this exhaust and wondered if the sound and performance was still good with a high flow cat instead of buying a separate mid pipe.

What I can tell you about this exhaust is that with the stock cat it is neither raspy, nor high pitched. It has a semi low growl, lower than most aftermarkets i've heard for the 8. Here's a picture showing how the tips look after 8 months or so.

Just to back Sam up, I have it on with the stock cat. It's waaaaay lower than the pthers in the low rpm ramges. Towards higher rpm you can't tell much difference from stock. I've only had it on for about a half a week tho, so it might change.
