Angry blown engine

well ive been quiet for a while now but after getting a custom built turbo installed, the tech blew the engine while tuning with the interceptor-x. the air fuel ratio was at 18.

i would atleast have him take all the custom parts out and install the oem stuff. that's the least he can do. then atleast the dealer can replace the engine under warranty.

its to late for that, i had the car towed to the dealer for a compression test because the car did start even though it took awhile to get her going only to find out from the dealer that the compression test was so low that it wouldn't register

If they are tuning your car with a AFR of 18, maybe you should take it elsewhere.

Yep, sounds like inexperienced tuners....

how the hell did they get it to 18? Did they do that on purpose? Who's footing the bill?

Stock, your car will cut the fuel completely if your AFR is too lean. I guess the interceptor-x bypasses that protection.

They seriously had to have altered the fuel quite a bit, because it comes pretty rich from Scott, as a safety measure.

Eventhough the original poster will probably provide the actual explanation.... im guessing there must have been a failure with the fuel delivery system. Like no fuel.

We need the full story. We have many interested people here. How many pulls had he done? What AFR did you start with? Why was he so lean? What boost were you running? How long was the Interceptor on your car for before tuning?

first off all i would like to say that i bought the interceptor-x because i heard a lot of good feedback from members that bought it and i know that its not the problem at all. first of all the tech at the performance shop here in illinois that installed the turbo and tuned my 8 which i was under the impression he understood everything ran it extremely lean. i paid for an upgraded fuel pump which turns out a month later he did not install. i cant reveal to much because ill be taking this guy to court to settle the damages caused on my car.

Definitely sounds like your tuner didn't know what to do. After one run at 18 AFR he should not have taken a second without drastically changing the settings.

Here's what most tuners will do:
1. Run a baseline pull to see what the car does with boost controller turned off.
2. Verify/adjust for proper AFR/timing with boost controller turned off.
3. Increase boost by ~2psi and repeat Step 2.
4. Continue until target boost level is met.
