Better swap your midpipe for track

How many of you guys swap out your resonated midpipe for the track?
I have a RB dual resonated midpipe and it really slows my car down...literally feels like it's choking the car
has anyone else experienced this?
i was using a Turbo XS straightpipe and it makes a BIG difference...flow SEEMS 10X better
if your not swaping your midpipe out for the track like you do wheels, etc...u better start...i was amazed at the difference
anyone care to elaborate?...i do have a vivid imagination

It might have more to do with the condition of your RB dual resonated midpipe than it does with any gains you get from swapping pipes. I'd check the condition of those resonators. If the packing has blown out or otherwise is restricting the exhaust that could easily be your issue.

Funny, I heard there was a midpipe that does the same job with one resonator and no packing. I wrote the name down somewhere I'll have to find it :-).

in your sig it shows you have a cobb ap..you should do a data log of your airflow and see if there are changes between the 2 midpipes.

good idea but a little bit of a problem cause i had to cut the end off of the XS midpipe and weld it on the RB midpipe so it would mate with the XS catback so i cant swap back now
there is for sure a difference though...slower acceleration and just feels like the engine is being smothered or held back by the midpipe
not a big deal for me but i would definitely find a way to swap it out if i tracked the car
i was surprised at how much difference it made considering bot midpipes are catless

It sounds like your butt dyno broke

Unless something is wrong with the RB midpipe, there shouldn't be a difference big enough to feel. That or you have something else wrong that went unnoticed until the midpipe swap made you pay closer attention.

signs say no..

most rx8 guys i know that run midpipes. run the same as a very hi flow cat.. all blow flames..

clogged stock cat different..

more likely issue for power, plugs, coils, fuel pump..

cause it was loud as hell and vibrated the whole car!!!
also when swapping from the straightpipe to the dual resonated gas milage dropped from 21.5 to 19.5
i check the milage everytime i fill up at the same pump
i didnt really expect any of these changes and i hope theres nothing wrong with this brand new midpipe :S
coils and plugs have about 5,000 miles on them

Damn 21.5 and 19.5... **** i only get 16.6 according the app on my MyTouch. I get roughly 230-240 before the light comes on.

Im going to guess it has somethign to do with my commute to work only being 5 miles so i dont take long trips but still... i wish i got 19..

^ here is your problem. Getting even 19.5 MPG at the track is clearly not going very fast.

Use the pedal on the right!

And please join the club of the midpipe people that finally give up replacing other pipes and finally go with BHR... you really won't look back.

im very surprised at the MPG my 8 gets compared to most and im a very spirited driver
i usually get about 280-300miles per tank befor the low fuel light...90% of my driving is hwy though

Don't be, just means your 8 is actually healthy. I averaged 19.9mpg on my 8,300 mile trip around the country, including lots of 85+ cruising, "heavily spirited" driving up the pacific coast highway. Worst tank was 13.99mpg, on the funnest section of PCH, and had 3(?) tanks over 24mpg.

pretty dang good...i know a guy that gets close to 30MPG
supercharged...water/meth
i figured the RB dual resonated MIGHT not breathe as well just because of the resonators but this is a really noticable difference and i really didnt think MPG would be effected at all especially not a full 2 MPG

Oldragger? Yeah, his is proof that our engine isn't handicapped to the mileage people think it is.

Granted, there are lots of mods to get it there (S/C, S2 transmission, etc...), but since that wasn't his goal, racing was, it certainly shows you can have your cake and eat it too, even with this supposedly terrible engine.

exactly would have never figured it would effect performance and MPG that much
the only difference in the two is that one has resonaters but both are catless...surprised me
if i start tracking heavy i will weld an end on that straightpipe and swap out for track days for sure

You obviously are not mechanical.

A mide pipe is a straight pipe .......8hp max at 8500 rpm

with each resonator you loose about 2hp

A CAT back reduces flow even more.

Your butt dyno doesn't work.
