I am about to buy one too. I understand that the CEL will turn off after a while. The E
CU needs to "Learn" the new changes

When I put mine on, the CEL didn't come on for about a month, stayed on for a couple months, then turned off again. I havent seen it in quite a while. You don't need to buy an O2 sensor or O2 simulator if the occasional CEL doesnt bother you. You can turn off your CEL also if you want. It comes with a spot to screw in your stock O2 sensor too if thats what your worried about.

I've had my midpipe for about 8 months now.

Some cars will sow a CEL cat efficiency code and/or O2 sensor response code), some will not.
Mine did not - I have the BB midpipe with a resonator that I added later.

However, the Casper O2 fooler DOES NOT WORK IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM ON THE RX-8.
People who claim that it does don't realize they don't need it in the first place because they fall into the same catagory as my car.

Im hoping to see if this is true or not soon.My cel has been on since I installed the pipe 3 weeks ago and even if it dont work I get my money back.
Anyways if the other guys fell into the same catogory as you then why would they buy the o2 sim. if there cel never came on?

People have bought it at the same time as the pipe and installed it thinking it was required.
There are several reasons why it does not work on te RX-8 - all of them related to the relationship the PCM establishes with the CAT. It is a very close one at that.

hey all,
MazdaManiac is right,My CEL came on at about the same time it would have without the sim.. .Now I get to go unhook it all and then return it,How fun.I guess I will just deal with the light and when it had to go to mazda for something Ill have to throw the OEM back on.Its only about a 30min job anyhow.

It doesn't come with a resonator. Its basically just a normal test pipe.

Good question. I am just lucky, I think. Greddy is working on a box that is supposed to correct this, though I doubt it will.

I believe it can be addressed with some tuning and some trick electronics, but I can't say for sure until I have had my hands on a car that has this problem for more than a few minutes at a time.

I just bought a B&B Mid Pipe from Vivid Racing, $245 bucks, he matched, then beat the price from Hop Up Racing WITH FREE SHIPPING! If anyone is interested in getting one I HIGHLY recomend them (3rd time buyer). As soon as I get the pipe I'll put it on and will answer any questions just let me know. Cheers

Hey all,
as you know my CEL came on so I un-hooked the o2sim. and returned it and just left the car in the garage untill today.Today I got my car out and drove it to work with the CEL on and when I went to lunch it was off.I turned off the car to make sure the light is working and restarted it and its still off.I dont know what happened but I hope it stays off.The CEL has been on for about 4 weeks since I got my midpipe and never went off.Its strange how just a few miles after I remove my O2 Sim. that didnt work my light goes out..?I like it tho as long as it stays that way.

In Maryland, there probably is a fine, but they will never know if your car doesn't have the CEL on.
The test is completely based on ODB-II codes. If your ECU is clear and you have a gas cap, you pass.

They still look under older cars.

I think that's how it is here in WA too for cars equipped with ODB-II. I have yet to take one to an emissions test in my life but my friend did and he said they just plugged into his car and ran for codes and that was it.
