When I redline the car in first, and try to shift to second quickly (like racing), my car has a tendency to allow me to miss the shift and grind. I have heard that this is not an uncommon problem and am wondering if any of you that bought this have had this problem, and if so, did this kit resolved the issue?

if using a power tool you could use a grinder or perhaps even a right angle drill with proper attachment.. other option is just to use a metal file.. i actually used both -- power for doing the hard work faster and then the file to smooth out the edge..
so i'd recommend trying to find anyone with access to any of these tools or worst case scenario buying a file kit..

Received and installed last evening. This is one of those mods where it's hard to believe how a small part could make a huge difference in the driveability of the vehicle. 4th to 6th is rather nice.
I had to modify the tab to engage reverse. Fabro, I just used a metal hand file with the shifter mounted in a wood vise. Be sure to use a set of gloves or you'll rip up your palms like I did. I kept checking it every so often as to not remove to much material.
Very simple install.

are you guys saying 5th gear is so hard to go into because it's actually to easy? I mean I tried to downshift from 4'th to 3rd and ended in 5th lol

5th does seem really really close to 3rd now... will have to watch myself for awhile. On the bright side the annoying slop in the left of the 1-2 shift that has caused me to grind gears and miss shifts seems to be gone - thank god
One tip for those harness clips - after thinking for a few minutes i was able to get them off in about 2 seconds by: squeezing the inner tab (by the threads) on one side to the outside of the whole clip with a needlenose pliars and then hitting the tab on the other side with a nail and then pulling up with the pliars.

after another test drive, this thing kicks so much ***!
Around town the shift effort may be a tad on the high side, and it is a tad louder, but when driven aggressive I can finally shift as hard as i'm driving with absolutely no worry of missing a shift - the feedback is so much more positive and the best thing is the bulletproof, solid feel you get while horrendously thrashing through the gears.
I tend to think the "rifle bolt" term to describe shifters is way over used, but in this case thats the only thing that comes close to describing it!

Installed it yesterday, and I agree with r0tor. Around town the effort is a little on the high side, but it is absolutely worth it!
I broke the first tab on the right side because I had trouble removing it... I stopped and read through all the posts talking about the tabs... then I found one that said "Just push it towards the passenger door, real easy to do". In a way the statement is correct...real easy to break!
The rest was a piece of cake... I did find a bunch of black crud on the 2nd boot:
I'm guessing it came from the "foam" under the boot... why it is on top of it I do not understand.

We did 4 cars today at the shop. I yanked them all with no broken tabs. "Yanked by the Yank" ....Gomez.

My neighbor helped me install mine today. It's louder than stock for sure, and it locks into gears real nice. Love the feel and have ever since I sat in someone else's drivers seat who had the SS installed.
Now how to fix the wiring for my illuminated ****?
It was working fine after the SS install. I tested it when I reconnected it just to be sure I didn't do anything when taking it off. Well apparently when screwing it back on I broke a wire and it's not working now...just in time for tonight's club meet.

One of the cars we did today had had the illuminated **** but it had broken the wire where it comes out of the unit. At least that's what I was told. He also said they all break. Another owner there concured his had also broken.

Installed, and I am very satisfied. It reminds me of the "shift feel" of the Morgan that I used to own. I believe that it had a Moss transmission. This would be the first mod that I would make if I were to buy a new 8.

received like 30 mins ago and just finished installation and test drive. holy **** this is the funnest mod i ever got for my car!!! i have no prob with reverse or any gears at all! it seems much easier and smoother getting into every gear!! LOVE THE SHORT SHIFTER!! thanks for the GB Vice and Richard!!!

I received my shifter today…. All I can say is OMG! This thing is so cool, worth every penny if you ask me. Thanks to everyone who help organize the group buy specifically vIce_gRip, sorry if I missed anyone else. Also a big YOU ROCK to Richard Paul for making such a great product.

Finally got around to the install today. I had issues with the infamous right rear tab - now cracked, but not broken. Definitely use the wrapped screwdriver technique. I had to do a few rounds of filing to get the reverse tang down enough to make reverse usable in daily driving. Works beautifully now. Love the tight shifts! Awesome shifter!
