UK Anyone who has the exedy stage 2 clutch fitted

Hi all i recently had my clutch changed for a stage 2 exedy clutch and i'm having issues. Im trying to ascertain whether the problems im having are just the nature of the beast or that it was incorrectly fitted. Ive included 2 extracts of 2 msges of myself and another user who also have the clutch. Im really looking for any usa users who are actually happy with it.
Mazda fitted both of our clutches.

"I also have had a exedy stage 2 carmetlatic clutch fitted after i wrecked the previous one with Arnie -O on a drifting day. http://s784.photobucket.com/albums/y...photos/clutch/

Now my clutch has been fitted for 600 miles, and i have several issues, in reverse it hardly drivable with a massive amount of shudder.
Also have clutch shudder in 1st and 2nd gear and the "bite" is hard to gauge which means i end up covering and slipping the clutch to stop the shudder.
On the trackday i was missing /struggling to get into 4th gear as well.
The clutch we supplied from *** however we got mazda dealer to fit it. We suspect they did not fit the spigot bearing for the shaft which we supplied which is why we have the shudder. however it may just be the way a stage 2 clutch is??? Oh we also changed the flywheel as that was damaged but only for a stock oem one that we had lieing around lol.
Does yours do any of the above??

"
Re: exedy clutch

Hi,

I have had that clutch for 1,5 year and I absolutely hate it.

I do not really know what you mean by "shudder" but im guessing its shake and vibrates when the clutch is engaging the flywheel? if so thats something you have to live with.

Start from 1 gear and reverse can not be done without massive vibrations, that can also happened during rolling gear change 2-3, 3-4 etc if you dont pay attention.

Thats the way a sinter clutch work, its a totally "digital" clutch, like nothing, nothing, nothing and all at once.

missing struggling at 4th gear dosent seem to be good, that should not be a problem. the only time I like my clutch is at trackdays and speedy changes on high revs. for Daily use its useless. someday im going to throw it out and install a exedy stage 1 organic clutch instead.

But its a strong clutch and seems to take a fair bit of abuse, dont mind that rattling sound it wont brake.

If you are hypersensible and do it at exactly the right revs you can get it to start from standing still without rattling but thats hard and you have to be using different revs on different ground (tarmac, dirt etc).""

The issues you describe are normal for that clutch because it is a RACING clutch and not intended to engage smoothly nor really be driveable on the street. Cera-metallic clutch discs are made to handle high heat and, as a result, are very grabby. This is why I almost never sell them to anyone.

You would have been better off with an Exedy #10803A or #10803AHD.

yes well i did only pay and order a stage 1 exedy clutch, however mistakenly got the stage 2. At the time i didn't realise it would be an issue.
Could we just change the clutch plate itself? Time for a bhr lightened flywheel as well

If the disc thicknesses of both the Stage 1 and Stage 2 are the same, you probably coud just swap discs.

Check the disk thicknesses between the stage 1 and stage 2; if they're the same, you should probably be able to just swap them.

I have the exedy stage 2 with the lt wt f'wheel.
No point in trying to feather the clutch. Just rev it up and dump the clutch.
You will not hurt the clutch. It is made for abuse.
Reverse can be a bit tricky.
Hope you have a reinforced clutch pedal.
I do think that after a while it becomes more streetable (less grab).

Cheers

Well a small update, had the stage 2 taken out and replaced with a new clutchplate and a RB flywheel.
Car lasted 3 days and whilst out on track clutch went. ;(
