Air intake manifold
Anyone modded or had a new one made up instead of having the silly plastic one?
|
i believe racing teams still use the silly plastic one.

Would not look quite soo good if plastic. And considered the rx8 renesis isnt used for racing and instead all 20b's i dont see how they can use that intake manifold? |
i guess you've never heard of the koni challenge?
|
that 20b is using one of those silly fan intakes
|
The plastic one is good enough too. If you want to change something you have to grind a bit the metal one in the intake ports and clean it from the castings.
A lot of work for a minimal gain. It is worth it if you already have your engine pulled down and want to do everything possible while you are at it. |

oh f**k :banghead:
i assumed it was a 20b after looking at that huge turbo .... |
^^^ owned.
c'mon Brettus, didn't you know that when you assume _____________ (you know the rest) |
I think ill strip it out and just paint it to match the rest of the engine bay. thanks for your help

The stock manifold looks like shit.
Anyway RB aint doing one i emailed them today |
The stock manifold works fine. It holds all the pressure you need, and the runners are the perfect length.
Why do you need to replace it? Just for looks? |

I dont think he knows what he is talking about. Dont even need to tell him anything about the Koni challenge.

Here is a little info on the series:
Like the Rolex Series, the KONI Challenge Series is made up of two classes of race cars. The big-bore Grand Sport (GS) class features a rules package that allows exotic international machines like the Porsche 996 and 997, Nissan 350Z, BMW M3 and others to go head-to-head with American iron such as the Pontiac GTO and the Ford Mustang GT. The smaller Street Tuner (ST) class is Grand American's offering to the import and compact car crowd, with the Mazda RX-8, Chevrolet Cobalt SS, Dodge SRT4, Mini Cooper S, Acura RSX and TSX, a variety of BMWs and other models eligible. You can find more info at the Koni Challenge site. |
aww man, i cant belive i have to put up with somthing perfectly engineered for the application and lightweight, instead of getting some inefficent shiny hunk of metal

Yeah it's weird the Star Mazda cars are race cars that use a renny...with stock intake manifolds too! Yeah and kersh4w said it too...duh KONI Challenge 8's run rennys also.
thanks for that!!! :) beers  |
Well would you know what the kirkistown series is?
no......perhaps its because your in a different country from me..... Yes the new intake manifold would be for cosmetic reasons only. All it was intended for was engine dress up. |
The silly plastic intake manifold doesn't heat soak nearly as fast as a silly aluminum one. The silly plastic intake manifold weighs less than a silly aluminum one. Please don't say it's heavier than aluminum tubing either. If it came in aluminum, it would be cast just like the silly aluminum lower intake manifold.
The intake manifold on the Renesis is the best intake ever applied to a rotary over the widest range. I have never seen another design that could make it better and even race teams that ARE allowed to change the manifolds haven't. That says alot! For forced induction use it could be argued that the plastic doesn't have the hoop strength that aluminum would so it would be better to upgrade it. This is the only excuse I can think of to change it. I have wanted to try some ideas but if I could easily mold a new plastic one, I'd definitely go that route. It's not really all that silly. |

LOL, I wouldn't call the Nissan 350Z an "International Exotic", (well, perhaps if I owned a Tempo) but I get your point.
|
I still got a chuckle out of it, I mean, come on.

does the greddy lower intake manifold work on normally aspirated cars
|
agreed that this intake is good for the na car--for fi cars there are a few small things that can be done---the intake was not designed for a fi kit.
i have an aftermarket upper aluminum intake with the pettit kit and just like RG and others say it does heat soak much worst than the "plastic" OD |
for looks yo could paint it as done before but just like the actual intake on this car it's set up about as good as u are going to get.....

no that would be an exhaust manifold and not an air intake manifold
|
i dont believe there has been a aftermarket intake manifold done.. there would be no reason to make one nor would there be enough of a market for what they would have to sell it for..
|
greddy has one search rx8 gredd intake manifold on google....i was just wondering if NA cars could use
|
that is quit odd, someones gotta get this and see how well it works, and if there are any benefits over the oem...
|
wow that is really weird i thought he was making it up but its true there is one.
it looks like a small plenum after the throttle into the lim. would that not put the tb on the left side of the engine too? |
post a pic someone?
|
someone post a link or pic please

I kind of did, right above zoom's post
|
i sent one of the companies selling a message asking for a photo of the real product and explaining that the pictured item wont work on the Renny
|
It does however seem that it would fit the REW 13B, at least visually
|
I wonder why GReddy's website doesn't even mention this item for our car
