AF short shifter question
ok.. so i have the AF short shifter... was my first mod.. i loved it.. i could DEFFINTLY tell the difference..
well jsut today i got the ACT prolite flywheel installed..by the mazda dealership. and getting back into my car and driving it.. the throw seems longer.. almost like they switch my SS back with the stock one.. i called, and the guy who worked on my car is a buddy of mine, and swears to me he didnt touch the SS... is it becuase the flywheel isnt as big that the throws are longer or.. has anyone else had this happen..??

The flywheel stock or otherwise has nothing to do with shifter throw. Either its a perception issue on your part, your "buddy" is goofing you, or your "buddy" isn't really your buddy and changed your SS out for a regular one for some other reason. Not too many choices from a logic standpoint.

its either that you got so used to the short shifter that you dont even feel that its there anymore or its either it got switched... i have the prolite flywheel myself and the throws of the short shifter still feels the same. i suggest you take the short shifter out and take a look at it.

I don't know if that's possible. The difference between the two is substantial. Moving from 4th to 6th gear is literally millimeters to the right.

If someone took mine I'd be pissed....
Finding out is 5 minutes work. Just pull the shifter cover and check the color of the collar. White is AFE and black is stock.

RP was talking about the cup on the bottom of the SS getting damaged on some units. Possibly the shop damaged something while removing the tranny? If you pull the SS you can check the cup... but it should increase the noise if it's broken... Still worth checking.

It turned out the green foam under the shifter boot was just wadded up and thrown in there, causing the **** to sit a bit higher and the boot to look different. I went home and fixed it, but at first I was like "Who steals a short shifter? Honestly."

I had the same thing after my flywheel was installed.. Turned out that they installed the shifter backwards so the reverse-lock was pointing in the wrong direction. The left-right travel was all wrong. Getting it into 5th/6th was a real art form.
