AEM Sound Question

Whattup fellas (and gals),

I am about to pre order the MS CAI. Since it supposed to be virtually identical to the AEM, I need to know what the AEM sounds like. I have read through the other threads and got everything from it is loud as hell to it sounds stock until you get over 7000. For those who have it, what does it sound like at idle, driving around town, cruising on the freeway, and, of course, at WOT? Thanks......

If you are worried about noise stay away from this intake. It is loud all over the rpm range. 7000k and up sounds great if you have 300hp to back up the sound. What I didn't like was when you are in the lower rpms and you push the gas pedal down, it droned really bad until you got to 4-5k rpms. I had the REVi and sold it for an AEM. I've now sold the AEM and am going back to the REVi. It just fits the sound of the car better.

how can an intake be loud? all it does it suck air and plus it's up near the front of the car? are we saying the engine itself is louder now, or the exhaust note? or? when I had my tricked out truck with an intake on it, only difference I noted was the hissing sound due to it sucking in air, everything else sounded the same.

intake gives the engine a... with rotaries... whinning sound. It really does not make much of a difference. Exhaust is what makes people irritated, cuz they can be real loud.

On my car I have tried various intake setups (with both a stainless and foam filter) with different types of metal tubing (don't know the kinds) and different lengths and bends. All produced different sounds... So I can't say I'm surprised that the mostly plastic Revi is a lot quieter than the metal tubing of the AEM.

intakes dont make any sound. the sound you hear comes from the the ports opening and closing. so different lengths and diameter tubing will cause the sound to be amplified and be on different frequencies. kind of like different wind instruments will have different sounds.

i have the aem cai, and i love it. at idle it sings to you. normal driving, it is quite fine, even at higher rps's. only when you are at the higher rpm range and at wot, does the intake roar. i love it.
