AEM intake

I just purchased an AEM intake for my RX-8 and was wondering if anyone could a tell me how long it takes to install, b tell me the horse power gains or torque, and third is this the best intake for the car?

do you think that the next upgrade should be pulleys?

There are a ton of things you could do... depending on what your goals are. Personally I'm not really doing anything yet, because I'm trying to go turbo. If you search around, you'll see mods like the intake, exhaust, pulley .. etc... don't do much as far as power gains go. But pulleys are not a bad thing to get. A lot of people are happy with them.

I have the AEM intake installed, only takes a couple hours. Just follow the directions that came with the intake and you'll be fine.

I have the Agency Power pulley and to tell you the truth, I say save your money for other mods like a lighter flywheel, wheels/suspension if you go out to the track, or exhaust if you want to change the tone of your car. There are other mods that people seem to like. Search around and you'll find many threads here that will answer all your questions.

Don't look for much gain with these mods unless you go FI.
Again, take a few hours to browse this site and you'll learn a lot. You can learn just about anything for your car here. This forum consist of many individuals who are well knowledge on the RX8 and will help out with any problems you might encounter.

Depends on if you've taken a bumper off a car if you have then 2-3 hours if not 3-4 hours. At least it was 4 hours for me it was the first I ever took off any car. As far a gains don't expect alot, get a nice sound loud/throaty as hell, esp. around 7k up, feels a hair faster but probably psycolgial, but I love the sound couple that with exhaust and it sounds really good, again no huge gains but makes it sound tuned and beautiful so I am still happy with the money spent so...

I know that i wont get hp from the intake but it is a push in the right direction. I don't know where to go from here. I seem to read that people go with pulleys but nothing more to that so far. Anyone has an suggestion on what i should do?

What is your goal? Do you just want these parts to have them? Are you looking for horsepower? Do you just want sound? Do you care how the car handles?
Do you want to stay N/A?

1) installation takes at most about 4 hours, given that you have no previous experience removing your front bumper and such.

2) horsepower gains for the aem intake are very slight just like any other aftermarket intake for this car. averaging at about 3 hp, but hey, it all adds up in the end

3) the aem intake is a good aftermarket intake for the rx-8, the only other intake that has received positive review and is just as, if not more popular is the RB Revi Intake. i say that if you are indeed looking for an aftermarket intake then let your decision lie between these two only for a variety of reasons that i won't bother mentioning here (search button ftw!). the most significant different between the AEM and the RB however is that the AEM is significantly louder while the RB is more of a subtle change in sound. power-wise, you'll be seeing around the same results...

hope this helps

How come more people don't choose the Mazdaspeed CAI over the AEM?? Isn't it basically the same intake design/manufacture except for one having the Mazda warranty?

I am just starting off and ordered the intake and it looks like without a turbo you get no horse power gain basically. I was reading and went to go for the pulleys next and then i am lost. I dunno where to go or were to look at part places to get items. I have been searching and find what many of you say the same questions. I just don't know where to head.

Spend your money on suspension... leave everything else alone till you are ready for FI

Poon, you have to decide what you want.

If you're looking for power, there's not a bolt on in the world that's going to do much for you NA.

If FI isn't in the cards right now then spend your money on things that you want instead of HP gains. Body kit? Exhaust? Suspension upgrades? SS brake lines? Short shifter?

or NAWZ

son, my personal advice to you is to save up and spend your money on a shiny new nitrous system, a 150 shot, no less.

nawz is everything your looking for:
1. significant power gains, especially if you go with the 150 shot

2. style points by having those huge *** bottles inside your car. make sure its the NOS brand though because it was featured in movies and looks bad ***

3. you get all the bitches

I dont' think the 8 could handle a 150 shot... I don't think it'd be able to handle a 75 shot without some serious tuning either...

this comment has no validity.....have you done it yet?.....are you even aware of the nitrous potential?.....how did you come to this conclusion?......

NONSENSE!

All you'll need to do is shell out cash for a whole new ecu system, none of that piggy-back crap. tune that baby and you'll be able to handle 150 shot no problem, hell with proper tuning on that new ecu you'll be handling a 200 SHOT!

i'm just saying son...if you want to WTF-PWN your competition (350z, evo, sti, CORVETTE Z06!) in a drag race, then your going to go with my suggestion!

can't believe i had to explain myself to a disbeliever...

Calm down guys.. I DID NOT say it coudn't be done. I said I don't THINK it could be done. In no way am I any kind of nitrous pro... And I did say that I think tuning would probably need to be implemented for a 75 shot...
So get off your rag...
Personal opinions guys... everyone has one.

i want to gain horse power and a overall balance. I dont care much for drag racing nor drifting all around like in ff3 just road driving feeling the turns beating a car in the hills. I dont know where else to go after the intake, i knew it wasn't going to give me HP im not an artard but yeah i need to look around but i see so much i wanna do just not knowing where to go. The intake is a baby baby step but a step none the less now to get more HP. I was looking at a greddy exhaust they run around 400-500 i heard those give off 20+ HP but not sure. i like the feed back it is helpin me out.
