Question AEM CAI Sound

Okay guys i know this is a newb question, but i'm a newb so bare with me :D I just go my AEM CAI installed and I have never used CAI in my life. I am making sure that the high pitch sound that comes from the filter area is normal. It doesn't make much sound when I start it but after about 5 mins of driving it makes a high pitch sound. I assume this is normal but I just want to double check. Thanks in advance

I just installed mine today. I have never driven a car with an aftermarket intake nor exhaust and I do not know what the AEM CAI should sound like.

My perception of it is that it sounds like your typical fart-can exhaust (except from the front of the car) from the inside when near WOT, yet mostly indifferent otherwise; is that about right? I'm not noticing much of a "high pitched" sound.

I am running a stock exhaust system, so there's no confusing the sound for the exhaust.

^ The intake just makes the car louder. Very noticeable after 6000 rpms. Further, you should be able to hear some whistling noise (something similar to a jet engine sound but not as loud). That's what I hear with mine

you won't hear the whistle/high pitch til after a ten minute drive or so. Atleast from my experience. I don't hear the high pitch sound until after the engine is warm and RPM's have been high.

i would just advise to ensure that the pipes are perfectly lines up, any deviation that it will have a negative impact on the performance. If you think the whine is out of the ordinary, make sure the screens are mounted right in the couplers, yes there is a wrong way to do it (the grooved portion should be facing away from the throttle body). Make sure all the clamps are tight, especially the one on the filter. Avoid water as much as possible, if you feel it start to stumble after washing it or driving in the rain, take it apart and clean out the pipes because water has gotten into the system. Clean the MAF sensor often as well, the water will create havoc with it.

By "grooves" you mean the ones on the inside of the rubber tubes in relation to the screens? Also, does it matter the direction the screens themselves are facing? They seem to be curved in one direction. I don't think the instructions detailed any of these specifics.

Grungepup, thanks for the information, can't wait til my intake and exhaust arrive! Were any of you guys able to install the CAI without completely removing the front bumber? I am not to excited to remove the bumper but will do so if there is not way around it.

Unless you can snake that tube around - which I doubt (you'll see) - there's no way around it.

You need to remove the front bumper so you can remove the few clips for the stock air duct.
Then, the AEM has two bolts and spacers that secure it to the frame (which is in the front).
There is no way to do this without removing the bumper.

Don't worry about it, its actually very easy to do.
Once you do it a few times, you'll be OK with it.
Also, the AEM instructions tell you that you need to remove the front wheels.
This is not true... you can get to every thing with the wheels on.
I've lost count on how many times I've done this.

^+1

not to mention you have to remove the ducting and tray that ducting sits in.

You will also need to remove the crash guard to get the S pipe to fit properly.
