Accessport - "HP GAIN?"

I've been trying to find the answer to my question for a long time. Do any of you guys know for sure how much HP gain I would get from an Accessport? Is there a difference in gain between an MT and AT? Thanks.

cjkim 07-08-2009 05:47 AM

it would vary by your current tune and how capable your tuner is.

StealthTL 07-08-2009 06:00 AM

The 'performance' tune that Cobb sends with the AP is kind of sad......

Isn't that why MM gives you 6months of free tunes? So you can get the most out of what you have? The preloaded tunes are one size fits all tunes are not for your specific vehicle and that is most likely why you are unhappy with it. If you have had the 6months of free tuning through MM and are still unsatisfied, please let us know and explain why.

yes, but still better than stock.

OP -- see my see sig.

Also, with the CobbAP, you could tweak the AFR's yourself, if you know what you are doing. How does the CobbAP with MM's final tune compare to these?

I would like to see some data on that too.

jmc23200 07-08-2009 09:53 AM

If anyone has a Non FI RX8 with CobbAP and a final tune from MM, could you share your AFR for comparison?

myriadshalaks 07-08-2009 10:03 AM

i'm sure the afrs will be comparably good and likely better looking. I'm interested in the timing maps and the VE tables. But we'll never see them.

Razz1 07-08-2009 10:30 AM

I have seen 10 hp on 100% stock motor.

15 to 20 on modified. These are Dynos.

Main thing is other benefits.

Runs leaner at idle so you don't foul plugs and flood engine. fans come on sooner.

More oil is injected to seals etc...........

Jedi54 07-08-2009 11:32 AM

depends on how good your tuner is, how well your car runs now, and yes there is a difference between MT and AT. (MT's can make power at higher RPM's)

Kane 07-08-2009 11:47 AM

All of the above. Worth the money when you consider an exhaust will get you 2-3 HP for the same amount of money.

Jedi54 07-08-2009 11:51 AM

but my exhaust sounds WAAAAYYYYY cooler then my AP.

DarthRX8 07-08-2009 11:51 AM

Best mod for the money IMO.

Gut your cat = Free and then you get to be loud too.....

04RX8man 07-08-2009 02:56 PM

Can lean out the tune with the AP(better if you are catless) to make more power since these things run pig rich to help keep out kitty CAT happy!

Razz1 07-09-2009 09:02 PM

yes!

but I still need to breathe. I can't stand Cat-less cars like my rx7, it came with full RB race setup. Awww cant stand the smell. gotta spend another 900 bux to buy a new Mangaflow cat and RB Exhaust(cost almost as much as the car lol)

Thinking should I get AP or Exhaust for my 8 ...

NoOdLe BoY 07-10-2009 08:14 AM

i was also trying to decide between the cobb from MM or an exhaust. i decided on getting the exhaust firstand other mods, that way when i do get the cobb from MM itll be more specific to my most current setup.

AP?
LOL hasn't done anything for me.

Targatheory 07-11-2009 01:44 PM

Question. Are functions such as early/constant fan operation, AFR adjustment, more oil on startup, etc doable by regular customers? Or must a professional handle those?

I know I can find it by reading through a hundred pages of threads, I just need a brain jogger. I think it's no...

myriadshalaks 07-11-2009 03:28 PM

you can do it using the racetuner software available from cobb.

Did you buy the AP from MM or somewhere online? I'm guessing you did not get 6 months of tunes free.

myriadshalaks 07-13-2009 10:40 AM

sarcasm ... not always understood.

What he said....
I've seen the best improvements made on 8's without a cat.

Mmmm ya sorry about that. I must have a few too many pops when I did that. I generally start doing the free post thing if I've had too many.
Some people drunk dial, I free post. We all have our crosses to bare.

To be honest I would NOT recommend to anyone that they buy the AP if the only thing they were going to do with it was use the Cobb Stage 1 tune.
That tune really isn't that good IMHO.

My car actually throws a Lean Condition cell when I use the Cobb Stage 1 tune.
I can't remember the P# right now, I will try and find it.

Anyways the Cobb is some much more than that, its a tool and a good one at that.
I bought it because I wanted to monitor all the things that it can, and eventually make my own tunes using the Access Tuner Race software.

(myriadshalaks I haven't forgotten about trying your free tunz. I'm on holidaze this week, I hope to get around to trying them out)

I also knew that I would be getting MM to tune my car, more specifically I knew I would be getting him to tune it for my nitrous setup.
With that being said, you will notice my AFR's are on the rich side in the dyno's.

Third Dyno. Back to the same place as my first one.
Mods = Added a High Flow cat, and up'd the nitrous to a 65 shot.

Thank-you or should I say MM thanks you.
Clean plugs, new wires and coils helps as well.

The cell that the Cobb Stage 1 tune causes is (mention in post #29)

P2270 Rear HO2S signal stuck lean ON 2 HO2S ´ (See DTC P2270 )

I was thinking about posting something about this in the Cobb forums however with all the modifications that I have I don't think it would go well, but meh I will do it anyway.
