bringing back a thread from the dead...

cna someone explain gearing to me or point me in the right direction...? the lower the number = short better accelleration and worse mpg? and higher = taller slower, better mpg?

Higher number = More torque multiplication, faster acceleration, worse fuel mileage, less top speed.
Lower Number = Less torque, slower acceleration, better fuel mileage, higher top speed.

The gear ratio is simply how many times the driveline has to turn for a full rotation of the wheels. However it looks like this thread was about lowering the ratio to take advantage of the engine's powerband and stay in boost longer which could achieve better acceleration by matching the powerband alittle better.

so.. then with the turbo, the "lower number" would be the best bet becuase it takes longer to get to a speed, but with the turbo, those problems are gone.... gotcha

I wouldn't worry about dragging a NA RX-8, but the 4.777 final gear from Feed would probably be the best thing for putting more power to the ground in NA form.

this will make it easier for you... the lower the # the lower the rpm in any given gear.

Yes as in, smaller side wall tires, lighter flywheel and gears(4.77 the best?)? And what else besides that? As you can tell i am new to the RX-8 scene. But i have to say compared to other automotive forums i have been a member on this one is THE BEST by far.

welcome.

you need to take the time to read the stickys... it will help a lot...

i would say as a student you cannot afford the gears or the flywheel. unless you are going to put it in yourself...

read the stickys learn then ask...

if you need help finding stuff pm me..
