As of this day, I have decided I must have a turbocharged RX-8 within 9 months. Why 9 months you ask? Because I'll be giving birth to a beast!

I don't mind doing some extra work for a turbo RX-8.

Any of you guys stop getting along with your wife? $700, no questions asked

You just got to find a lady that understands your obsession(s). My girlfriend is really cool, even tho she couldn't care less about cars, she's still supportive (most of the time )

I was just hoping the Renessis was capable of better power output n/a if it could reach the goal I was wanting. I don't have a desire for high horsepower just a really responsive car, I would be doing street driving and occasional drift or circuit driving. I may change my mind about what vehicle I'm looking for but the 50/50 split is extremely appealing to me. Anyone with a turbo setup having problems with their car or really low gas mileage. Also what is the tuning program used to flash the 8, my friend is a tuner and all I would need to know is the safe a/f ratio for a rotary and what program.

Floppin, You're crazy ! But brilliant . These folks don't know your genius. I'm sure if you are sufficiently driven you can accomplish your goal. (Not necessarily in 9 months though).

Meh. I don't hit full boost until 3500... oh the lag and misery. I guess that means any supercharger equipped 8 is going to smoke mine right?

Comments like yours are part of the reason why people think it's laggy. They read it and think, "Oh, no power till 3500 rpm". What they don't realize is that it's generating boost below that point too. It's just not hit the desired peak pressure yet.

He wasn't, and I wasn't attacking him for it. Just pointing out how the lack of disclaimers in most posts can lead people to making incorrect assumptions.

Hmm.. I think you are right about that. If I had said, "I hit peak boost by 3500 rpms, when you arent even to 5psi, but turbos are slow and laggy." Would have been a better response. I was kidding a little, but I see your point.

regardless, when are you under 3500rpm? This isn't a pushrod motor, it's a damn rotary, 4000rpm is cruising rpm.

It looks like everyone has looked over my questions and has hijacked my Thread but I will repost again.

I was just hoping the Renessis was capable of better power output n/a if it could reach the goal I was wanting. I don't have a desire for high horsepower just a really responsive car. I would be doing mostly street driving and occasional drift or circuit driving. I may change my mind about what vehicle I'm looking for but the 50/50 split is extremely appealing to me.

Anyone with a turbo setup having problems with their car or really low gas mileage because I want to compare or get a few numbers. Also what is the tuning program used to flash the 8, my friend is a tuner and all I would need to know is the safe a/f ratio for a rotary since he does piston engines and what program to flash with.

A good piston tuner isn't a good rotary tuner. Two completely different things.

I thought it was pretty clear that you aren't going to reach 280 whp without FI.

I get approx the same fuel economy with turbo as without. If I make liberal use of the throttle, it drops 1-2 mpg.

at best, you get an exhaust (2hp) rb revi airbox(4hp) mazmart water pump (~3hp) and do pulley's , so that's like 10hp optimistically, get a Cobb AccessPort +15hp optimistically, and polished street port for maybe another 10-15hp. It's possible to get an extra 40hp doing N/A stuff but it'll be expensive.

From what I hear, the turbo's are pretty responsive. Maybe go to something kinda small and ball bearing like a GT28.

Alright, now cobb access port is a plug up flash programmer or a stand alone like aem ems? I just might bite the bullet and pick up an 8, I like everything about it except the gas mileage posts here and there....I'm pretty sure someone getting 12 mpg is driving pretty hard often but I hear an average of around 18 to 20 mpg which would make me happy.....theres nothing a single person can do about the gas prices so paying for gas is not an issue. Another question....doesn't the mazdaspeed rx8 have 250 or so hp and its exhaust, intake, and a ecu power wise?

The MS RX-8 might have 250hp, but stock they come at 232hp...

The Cobb AccessPORT is a re-flash device ("and much more!"). It comes with maps already on it for you to choose from, you can up your OMP output, and it has a ton of really useful features. There is a big thread on it ( https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-engine-tuning-forum-63/accessport-alpha-test-started-138169/ ) where MazdaManiac, the guy responsible for making most if not all of the included maps, describes the Cobb AP in a little more detail. The original poster said the most noticable thing with the Cobb AP was that it provided better throttle response, just what you're looking for. From what's being said about this device, I think it's pretty much the best thing out there for the RX-8.

RX8 ECU is a whole different animal.

Safe AFR's is one thing, so it ignition timing.
