192 to 231

Hi there

I recently brought my 2nd hand RX8 with 50,000 Km on the clock and love it to death.

RX8 are rare over here especially the higher powered versions so i decided to settle for the 192hp 5 speed manual version.

Just a quick question for you guys;

I've been searching through the forum and couldn't find much about modding the 192's. I did find something that said the 231 version has an extra set of intake runners over the 192, but thats all.

Would it be possible to add an extra set of intake runners to mine and remap the ECU to get some more HP?

thanks in advance
~Craig

The 5-speed 192hp RX-8 is the 4-port RX-8 from 2004-2005. The 4-port refers to the number of ports in the engine for intake and exhaust. Adding two additional intake runners will not do anything for the 4-port - the 2006+ engines have 6-ports.

If you want to increase the power of a 4-port RX-8, you should really look into force induction or nitrous. There are a few 4-port RX-8 owners who have done big modifications for power.

Since you're living in belgium (where I am right now ) the best bet would be to sell your car and get a high power one.
The 2 engines are completely different, so is the transmission etc. Even the timing on the intake ports those 2 engines "share" is different.
There are threads up here about this kind of swap but i still don't find it worth the hassle.
paulmasoner's shinka could be a cheaper alternative than just the money you'd spend for the swap. Plus it's a shinka, maybe the only shinka in europe at the monent

Well thats disappointing

Only just brought the car so don't really want to sell it. Just got a bill through for the registration tax........1900 euro's. You could add at least another 500 euro's to that for the 231 version (which i would have to pay again) IF you could find one over here (can't see any for sale at the moment)

Buying and owning a sports car over here SUCKS!

Would love to go turbo, but don't really fancy forking out $6000+ for it.

Does anyone know anywhere in Belgium/Netherlands/Germany/UK that works on RX8's?

Very close alnielsen..........Beringen

Im not really intested in selling mine and buying another one, as it would cost too much.

I was just hopeing to be able to get some extra HP out of mine without having to spend too much.

Thanks for all the help though guys!

If i really wanted more HP my best bet would probably be an engine swap.
