I have been communicating with a service rep at K&N. He assured me that the problems with the welds busting and the rough idles that some of us are experiencing are being worked on. K&N is to be releasing a new kit soon for the RX8 that should have all these problems resolved. I was told that my kit would be replaced (minus the filter) at no charge or I could wait for the new one. The rep I spoke to has been EXTREMELY nice, pacient, and responded quickly to my emails. I think I am starting to forgive any wrongs they may have brought upon us..... I will keep you all infrormed as to the progress of this situation.

PS : DreRX8, The kit I had that caved in was not a drop-in filter. It was a kit for my VW much like the typhoon

ahh I see--I've only had experience with their drop-ins--however I have been considering hooking my dads V8 Grand Cherokee with one of their intakes--they have dynos to show a 13.1HP gain on those.

GM V8 engines often gain a great deal of power from aftermarket intake and exhaust kits. This is do to the high restrictions placed on these motors for pollution reasons. When you "open em up" the engine's true power can be produced....somewhat. Too bad the never last more than 80K miles :D

See what happens when you drive too fast on those Moutain roads.

That 10 HP intake had nothing to do but shake, rattle and roll the engine with it's powerful roar.

I appologize for being harsh...but i am raging!
Thinkof it as a sign. Your Rx8 - she was showing you how badly she wanted to be reuinted w/the stock airbox who always treated her right. The K&N was no good for her - he was physically abusing her but she was just too afraidto tell you. Finally she built up the courage to fight back one day by cutting off his appendages whilehe was sleeping. Youshould be happy your car is this intelligent.

I was looking at purchasing the K&N Typhoon kit. I know you didn't speak to highly of it at our last OC meet, but I love the sound when compared to the SR Motorsports intake.

How will we know when the new one is out....will it be called the Typhoon II...or how will we (or parts shop) know how to order the "revised" one.

Also, is a replacement going to occur for everyone who has the Typhoon at this point, or just for those whow have broken ones? I guess I could get around this...by breaking that weld and getting the updated one....

UPDATE: K&N recently informed me that I will be recieving their new kit complete with filter within the next 3-4 weeks in exchange for the old broken one. Shaun over in tech support has been on top of things all the way through. Unfortunatly he is leaving and my "case" will be transered to another rep.

If ANYONE is having major problems with their Typhoon kit, Email K&N tech at tech@knfilters.com

or call:
1-800-858-3333

Let them know that you own an RX-8 and the problem you are having. They are able and willing to help in any way they can

Ok man I just sent a copy of that post to K&N and explained my situation with the broken intake. Hopefully they'll be as helpful as they were with you.

Hey what do you know, they said that I have a new one on the way already. I just need to put the broke one in the box that the new system is coming in and drop it off at the UPS store. Well I have to give it to K&N, they honor that warrenty pretty well. $30 for a broken tube and get a brand new system for free :D Sweat...

K&N has been nothing but great to me in the past, I had a FIPK system on an older car that I didn't seem to get any gains out of and made the car worst to tell you the truth, but they took the system back after about 6 months of use on a "customer satisfaction" warrenty, that is a good company. I will continue to use their drop in filters though, especially when the RX8 paper filter costs almost as much as a K&N

Since K&N is a banner sponsor on this site, surprised they haven't chimed in here a bit... to mitigate some of the damage that has already been said/unsaid. Hmmm...

I asked Shaun (Tech at K&N) the same question and he said that he wasn't allowed to join any public forums.

that's a fair response. I can understand that. But wouldn't it be better if someone over there just came here and said... "ok our original filter had some problems, we will try our best to fix them and work something out. We want everyone to be happy with their products. etc etc..."

I agree that they should step up to the plate and set the record straight but I guess that the company policy doesn't allow them to do that. Though he did mention that it was OK if I posted the replies I received on this forum. Sounds like a case of semantics to me.

Anyways, they've done right by me so far and hopefully in a couple of weeks we can see for ourselves if the new intake works any better.

Hi guys,
im in Corona, CA. and i have been testing the new KN prototype filter and have had no problems whatsoever, its a deffinate improvment over the orig. piece. The new one is a round carbon fiber filter, ive had no problems, no CELS, no bogging or stalling. Ill post some pics up soon for you guys. and a dyno sheet. I know they need an 05' RX8 to finish the final design in the product. Anyone have an 05'?
Thanks,
Ed

You might want to try some JB Weld. For those that don't know the product, its a two part compound that sets like metal. It won't look original as it is darker than aluminum, but it can be sanded/milled/machined, and it holds. I've bought it in most hardware shops.

Just saying...
