Probably should post this.

Al,

We're awaiting the arrival of the subcomponents for this mid-pipe section from our supplier. We decided to shorten one of the presilencers slightly in order to provide adequate clearance with the chassis. We we're too keen about the spacer blocks that the other supplier used on their pipe to allow clearance for the chassis brace, or design will not require these spacers.

We're hoping to see the presilencers on the next delivery, hopefully it should be sometime next month. I won't know until I receive a confirmation from our supplier, they can be notoriously late with their delivery paperwork, which only adds to our frustration.

Best regards,

Jim Langer

I emailed him the other day too...let me get it..

I know that we're still awaiting the arrival of the shorter units. However, I do know that Mr. Oku mentioned this project again last week and is undertaking some preliminary work. Keep in touch, I'll pass more along info as it becomes available.

I'm very interested to see what comes of all of this. Is RB taking pre-orders yet?

not yet, they wanted to see how much interest there was for it before they went into production...
I gave them this link and they saw for themselves how many people wanted this, so they decided to give it a shot

Yeah... i have a gutted hi-flow cat... it sounds awful... If RB is trying to replicate the old Mazsport pipe, that would be cool.

No. They're taking the basic concept used by Mazsport with dual RB silencers in a midpipe and re-engineering it so that it will produce the same results with fewer problems with fitment.

RB should get an approved group by with deposits set up for this. I want one of these the moment they're available so I can keep from killing off my cat in the Spring. There was a NG 8 racing at Sebring this weekend with what appeared to be a turned downpipe that was literally burning up the course while making its presence heard in a sea of loud, race prepped cars. I'd love to get the former effect without the latter noise.

Scroll up a few posts and read the copied emails from RB.

They hope so see the presilencers next month. They need those to finish the midpipe.

RK, you can order this first so I can hear what it sounds like... I really don't want to have to start cutting up my midpipe and trying to fabricate something that sounds better...

Who am I kidding, I know that's exactly what will happen.

If they'd let me I'd cut a check to RB today. Too bad I can't use your RB sponsored car to help me get in front of the non-existent line.

Although I'm going to be very entertained seeing what you do to muffle your midpipe. Good to see your string of non-bad-luck is encouraging you to go back to doing random things. I am a little concerned that you almost appear to be thinking this through. That's no fun.

this thing sound really promising, I just don' t know if I could get used to the smell of driving a catless rotary.
I don't mind it too much with my RP Highflow but this might not be much fun...

I grew up with my dad's 68 Shelby, so it reminds me of my childhood.

I put on a catless midpipe for a day and the smell wasn't bad, but it was way to loud.

If you're running leaner than stock via a tune the smell is significantly reduced. So is the ability to make flames (boo).

Um, no to the second.
A blower running the middle side of 12 A/F can blow 4 foot flames under load
.
/nitromethane helps....

Thumbs up Update

this is straight from RB's website:
New Product Update - January 2009
RX-8 Resonated Race Pipe

Over the past few months we've received a number of requests for a version of our popular stainless steel race pipe that is a bit quieter than the current model. In the recent past we had been providing some of our universal presilencers to Mazsport which they included in their own resonated race pipe, but unfortunately it appears that they've ceased doing business.

After reviewing the resonated race pipe that they offered, we decided to produce our own resonated version. One of the issues that the guys at Mazsport faced was that the length of our universal presilencers were just bit too long for the RX-8 application. Although you could fit two presilencers onto the race pipe, clearances under the chassis were very tight and a spacer block was required to provide adequate clearance between a presilencer and one of the chassis braces.

Faced with these concerns, we designed a new, shorter presilencer unit that we could use on our version of the race pipe and avoid clearance issues or the requirement of a spacer block.

If everything goes as planned, we should be able to have these completed unit in February or March. Check back for updates and pricing.

It sounds good, like an exotic. Did you run around the camera and then walk as soon as you got in front of the camera.
