Track Day at Rockingham Oct 21 - 22

Come join the "Great Pumpkin Run" with NASA-SE at The Rock - Rockingham, North Carolina.

Register here.

For anyone not familiar with this track, it is a "roval" (road course oval) utilizing almost the entire Nascar banked oval and the infield road course. It is quite exciting to drive on the steep banking. The transitions from the oval on and off the infield are gentle, yet challenging. Come out and play...

TA- nice videos. Can't make it that weekend, unfortunately -- but sometime I would like to get out to The Rock. It's only about 2 hours from Chapel Hill.

There are quite a few clubs that run there including the Tar Heel Sports Car Club (THSCC). I believe they have an event there in Nov. It is not a hard track to learn and not technical at all. The trickiest corner is the "fish hook" which is the first right hander after you enter the infield. It is a decreasing radius that most people double apex. I like te momentum line though. This track is very favorable to the RX8.

Last time there I lapped in 1:04 and change. It would be nice to go back and see with the 8. Have fun!

Will definitely be there and planning on "scuffing-in" my new Hankook R's. Great videos, I had not seen them in a while.

Really looking forward to cruise around those NASCAR bankings!

I've been reading all about the RRoad trip. Sounds like you all had a great time. I'm planning on coming out to the Rock. If I work it, it fullfill my 2 and get one for free, so I'm planning on that. I've been out of pocket for a while, travelling with work a lot, on the RX7club, and finally on a vacation for a week. I'll be back to the real world after tomorrow. I've been at Disney World all week. Funny, after the real track experiences, TestTrack, and the other rides here are almost "boring." HAHA.

Anyway, I'll see you all at the Rock!

Is the rock a horsepower track, a momentum track, or a mix of both? I'm sure the V710's for the 8 have another weekend in them, but I don't want to chance it with the car due to the "last event" superstition. She's been garage kept and seldom driven since the RX-7 got tuned.

I would say horsepower is your friend at The Rock. There are 2 short straights and the oval portions. You need power to accelerate out of the turns for the straights. The last time I drove the track, it was very slick so a good handling car still had trouble keeping the speed up around the corners.

Guys I am finally back from Sebring, sorry for the delayed response.

I will be trailering my car up to Rockingham and will be leaving from Atlanta on Friday, Oct 20 at around noon since I am flying back to Atlanta from PA.

I have a hotel room and my best friend is staying with me. But, you guys are more than welcome to join us, as the room is free.

Lego - if you are just going to work the event - you can catch a ride with me, but you will need to meet me in Atlanta on Friday at noon.

What else - ummmmmm - SEBRING is the sh*t!!!!
And one last thing - my car looks totally different than the last time you saw it. So here are some pictures so you will know it is me

I'm getting excited!!!

This event is just 1.5 weeks away and I am getting, how you say...
ahh yes... STOKED.

I am signed up for Instructor Clinic Level 2 so I will be 2/3 of the way done with NASA instructor level training. I will wait a while before I do the level 3 course.

Mood - did you reserve a garage at Rockingham? It is a good idea and only $25.

Is that rear wing adjustable? Have you changed it around to see if it has any affect on planting the rear?

Rear wing is adjustable - I have not changed it around yet, but you do feel a difference in the car!
