Smile SW Florida Autocross invite

I Just wanted to let everyone know that GCAC has an event this weekend in the Ft Myers FL area.

Saturday is test-and-tune and novice school. (Two separate tracks.) The novice program is great for those who are new to the sport, complete with many instructors and lots of seat time.

Sunday is a points day and we use an entire runway to make a mile long course.

Here is an example of the track.. (from outside the car)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTYiWbtwvhQ

And one from inside...

And here is our website..
http://www.gulfcoastautocrossers.com/

Feel free to pm me with any questions.

-Mike

$20 for Saturday and $30 for Sunday (you can do either, or both)

If you are stock, (on street tires) your best option will be B Stock Novice. It's B Stock cars, but no race rubber is allowed. Your main competition will be a 350Z. The driver has been autocrossing for about a year and seems to be driving at 70-90% of his car's potential. ( He's still a little inconsistent)

Have you ever autocrossed before?

Sorry it took me so long to respond. I had to work late tonight to avoid working Saturday and just got home.

The gates and registration open at 8. You will need your driver's license and $20. If you don't have a helmet, we have loaners. You leave your license, and take the helmet. They will give you three tokens. Two are for runs on the test-and-tune course and one is for lunch. (We grill hot dogs, burgers etc.) After registering, you should take your car to "tech." It's not hard to find. -A line of cars, and one or two guys with clipboards. They give you a small sticker and you put it on the top corner of your windshield.

The driver's meeting is 9:45-ish. At about 10am, everyone goes to the novice course or the test-and-tune course.

I would recommend you try the novice school. They have instructors to show you
how the sport works and you will get a lot of seat (driving) time. Even good drivers need to learn what the cones "mean" so they know where to go on course.

Novice school goes until lunch (12-ish). After lunch you can use your two tokens for two runs on the test-and-tune course. If you want more runs, you have to "work the course" for about a half hour. (You and about 4 other people stand in safe locations on course and pick up cones when people hit them. After about a half hour, we do a "worker change out" those who just worked get two more tokens.

I drive the blue Z in my avatar. #172 feel free to ask me, or any other members any questions. We, and just about every driver there, are always glad to help.

And about "how it works"; we space the cars out so that none of them have to wory about each other. The timer can keep separate times for a lot of cars baut we usualy don't have more than three on course at one time.

I hope to see you there!

-Mike

You can still do the novice school and get lots of time on the track, all before noon. You can save your tokens for test and tune until next month. ( we only run once a month)

I live in Lehigh, less than a 2 miles from the track. We run the mile-long course on Sunday. You are welcome to run Sunday, but it would be a steep learning curve. ( We have people do it almost every month) Last month, we had a guy bring his Magnum SRT-8 and autocross for the first time. Or you could just come and watch if you want. -No charge to get in the gates, only to drive.

If you can't make it this weekend, the next event is Jan 5th and 6th.

I drive a Phantom blue Rx-8 and Ive definately seen your Blue 350, Ive met Tom and Denise there and they are really cool and helpful people, say hi to them for me the next time you see them though they wont remember me by name but they know my face since they also come down to the autocrosses in homestead.

the last event I went to with you guys was the weekend of september 30th I was car number 380, they spelled my name wrong though. After that event me and my team closed out for the season due to other events that were taking place within the next few months.

Well there are two blue 350Z's.

Mine is the one with a basic STU setup. Street tires, springs, sways, Quaife differential.

But the one that gets noticed is Gregs APS TT beast. 500+ HP to the wheels, JIC's, huge 315 race rubber, etc..

The second pic is his, from a day that he let me drive it....like I stole it!
Oh, and I will tell Tom and Denise you said hi.

Bump!

We have another event this weekend! (Jan 5th and 6th)

The general consensus on this board is that the 8 is a "driver's car." But I wonder how many on this board know just how right they are. The 8 really shines on tracks with turns, and autocrossing is an excellent way to experience the car's capabilities.

I'm sure many of you enjoy spirited driving in your own "favorite spots", but until you get the car on a track and put the car on its toes for countless maneuvers back-to-back-to-back, with no letup, -no time to pat yourself on the back for a good move, because the next challenge is coming at you so fast...you don't know what your missing.

I guess a better way to explain it is this; you know that feeling you get when you take your favorite corner, or on-ramp just right? Well take that feeling, bottle it, and pump it through your veins with an IV for 60 to 80 seconds! It's that good, if not better, as you get faster and faster at the sport.

If any of you are interested, check the OP for info.

-Mike

you guys arent on break yet? or is the break in june/july? I forgot, lol and its been like over a year since ive gone. You know what else I found out by looking through the final records in 2007? I noticed that I would have placed 3rd in b-stock except for the fact that you guys mispelled my name for 1 event, I was jipped out of a trophy =(

We have this event and one more before the break.

The RX-8 I found only did one event in 2007. You have to compete in 8 of the 10 events to get a trophy, but if you think there is some mistake, pm me your info and I will look into it.
