Any South Flordia 8 owners want to plan a road trip somewhere? Keywest, Naples, Daytona, Tampa?

My fiance's family has a house in key largo. Dunno how willing they would be to lend me the keys, but would make a nice pitstop, about halfway down to key west. Just has to be a few weeks while I recover from the downpayment on my car :D

Although Tampa and Busch Gardens is nice :D

BTW, I just saw a silver RX-8 in my complex. So there's another one near me already!

So I guess there are only 3 of us in South FL?

Any other owners out there?

If you're willing to wait a few months, there will be an abundance of 8 owners (including my mother). Make it a nice caravan to an event hosted by MRCCFL.

Why dont we meet up in 2 weeks? Say do a cruise down AIA on the beach in Ft. Lauderdale down to Las Olas. Maybe stop for some food and head out for a drive? We do it early and The Floridian is a great breakfast stop. Has a nice metered (cheap) parking across the street that I've never had trouble with. Usually nice cars in the lot so everybody watches out.

How about Orlando "toward" more RX-8 owners not away from us? Or even to the West coast like Ft Myers?

It's around 300 miles from Tampa, I couldn't afford the trip in my 8. ;-)

Uhm, Orlando is farther from Miami than Tampa from Ft. Lauderdale :D We are in the same pickle. Who other RX-8 drivers are out that ways and want to meet up? If we are going to meet up with 4-5 people I'll drive Miami-Tampa. If it's just you, I think yer gonna be hoofing yer *** down to us :D

Well, Tom. Looks like we'll have to organize a Central Florida RX-8 owner's meet ourselves.

For some reason I thought you guys were talking about going to the Keys. Hence my "opposite" direction comment.

Anyway...
Tampa to Ft Laud: 270
Ft Laud to Orlando: 220
Miami to Orlando: 245
Tampa to Miami: 285
Miami to Cocoa: 204
Tampa to Cocoa: 140
Miami to Ft Myers: 155
Tampa to Ft Myers: 131
Miami to Naples: 123
Tampa to Naples: 169

Just some numbers compliments of Yahoo Maps...whaddya think?

Orlando traffic SUCKS though. I'm a UCF student in Orlando and driving around just BLOWS most of the time. There is a lot of construction in some areas, so they've narrowed roads down a few lanes (not to mention that they're all bumpy and got several potholes). Alternatively, the highways are RAPED with toll booths, and aren't much better on traffic.

Wait, I was supposed to be selling you guys on driving up HERE, wasn't I? Oops.

Traffic in the large cities, Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville, Miami, all suck certain times of the day. I'm 45 years old, I have more years driving then your life on this earth. Although driving in those situations will still blow, believe me, after many years of driving experience, you'll learn to tolerate it and it will be less frustrating to you. All it takes is patience my son.

So with that said, you didn't deter me from wanting to drive from Tampa to Orlando. Orlando is a great place for a meet. Make plans for a full weekend, and after the meet is over, visit a few attractions to complete your trip. :D

P.S. PM me. My daughter goes to USF and she has a few friends attending UCF. Just curious to know if you know any of them.

Naples or Ft. Myers seems ot be a better mid-point if we are gonna have people from both south and central florida going.

Orlando atractions are OK, but too many lines and too much money if ya ask me. Although I could prolly get us in the backdoor at Disney/MGM/Epcot, a 9 car caravan might be commented on :D

I do agree. Naples would be a great mid point for both groups. My point to strong bad was that "bad" traffic should not be the major factor in deciding on a meet, if Orlando was chosen. A compromising proximaty to those who want to meet should be the deciding factor. Which is why, in our case for a Southern Florida/Central Florida owners meet, a more pratical chose would be the two city you mentioned.

P.S. Let's not plan anything till after 1 October (when I due to get back). :D Seriously, if you all want to meet earlier, my spirit will be with you.

Welp, I'm trying to get a sunday meet for the people kinda local to me (Miami, Ft. Lauderdale). PM me if you want to hang out for a while sunday afternoon.

But we can hold more than 1 meet in Naples. It IS only a couple hours drive for most people here, and in this car thats not a big deal :D

Just remember! Alligator Alley has stationary radar traps!

(I KNOW )
