um, Raz... I don't think you understood the point of my statement "I don't think there should be a Florida club. Because you are all up in N. FL it should be a N. Fl club. Eventually people will make all the other clubs. It wasn't so much the idea as much as the name.

Now because I am in the "RX8club.com" I think it is redundant to organize a secondary club when you can just organize it here, but by all means continue with your club as it is only an opinion (I am entitled to those) and I truly wish you success in it. Who knows maybe one day I'll actually drive up and join you on one of your meets or vice versa.

A1A is an awesome drive in certain sections
Yes it is ;) I wouldn't mind doing that in the near future.

Hey guys, I joined up but it's not verey likely that I'll ever see any of you all as I'm practically in Alabama! HEH! Anyway, hopefully we can all get something sorted out. I would be able to help with any web design if you need. I've been doing it professionally for a few years now. PM me if you'd like a couple of links (don't want to get yelled at by the gods for advertising)!

Take care,

LabOp

No. There's a couple of regional groups here and there that are mostly RX-7s, but no statewide clubs.

However, there is the Mazda Rotary Car Club of Florida.

Hmmm...well that's pretty much how I feel. I see this club as elitist and arrogant. I don't think 7 guys would ever say "Hey we're having a meet this weekend! We want everyone to come! O ya...no Rx-8's. Thanks!" Enjoy your club. You're gonna get a lot of respect from people...

How many PT Cruisers do you see caravaning with the Corvette Clubs?
OMG Did you just compare the RX7 to the PT Cruiser and the RX8 to the Corvette?

oneflytrini 07-08-2004 11:17 PM

The whole RX-8 ONLY Car Club, is totally redundant. The MRCCFL is a perfect example of an ideal club. It does not discriminate any type of mazda or car. As long as you have the basic requirement, a rotary engine. I have been to a couple meets with the MRCCFL, and you can see almost any type of mazda there. Even Toyotas with rotary engines attend, and they are not discriminated against.

Whenever I see any type of nice mazda, wether it be rotary or not, I still throw out my thumbs up. Discriminating against other cars that share the same passion, is totally biased. How would you feel if your club went to attend one of the MRCCFL (or any other club) meets, and they told you could not attend? This is how you are portraying your club.

IMO dont join:p

JerryLH3 07-09-2004 06:15 AM

Guys, just let them be. Those same points have already been made by others earlier in this thread.

The last thing I'll say is MRCCFL Tampa Bay Area BBQ and Road Rally on July 24th. Everyone's invited. Check the sticky towards the top of this SE section. :)

BUT, for the sake of purity, focus, and preserving the species, there's nothing wrong with an RX8 exclusive organization....in my humble opinion. How many PT Cruisers do you see caravaning with the Corvette Clubs?

Are you serious? You are the one that said all this shit! The first part is a clear indication to the fact that Rx-7's are not allowed.

The second part is an obvious comparison between rx-7's and pt cruisers, as well as rx-8's and corvettes, which in afterthought doesn't even make sense. Corvette is a Chevy. Pt a Chrysler. These are 2 Mazda rotary vehicles! You my friend have just proved your stupidity. Enjoy your club. I'm sure it will be GREAT ;)

Ronin13Black 07-11-2004 09:51 PM

Jesus Christ. Is it that time of year again? The time of year when yet another person decides that they need to start an elitist car club to make themselves feel better? And what is it about rotary cars that makes this idea so popular? For Pete's sake, it's a nice car, but it is still just a Mazda, no matter how much silver painted plastic you may find on the interior of your car.

There are no dots to draw together. You have already put a solid line right down the middle. This is truly one of the most redundant and extraneous ideas I have seen, since the last car club that tried this idea out ([sarcasm]and we all can see just how well they're doing [/sarcasm]) and I still don't get the point.

Just let me ask the million dollar question that everyone has been alluding to:

What exactly is the point of an RX8 only club anyway?

Get a few million dollars and maybe I'll begin to understand the attitude.

Ronin13Black 07-11-2004 10:13 PM

BTW, at Towers down here, the PT Cruiser Club parks directly across from the Corvette Club. Put that in your snob pipe and smoke it. ;)

Whatever happened to MRCCFL? It seems to be plagued by inner power struggles and overall hate and discontent. Could these have been the same folks who flamed our efforts to organize an RX-8 club here in Florida?

And now they've fragmented and formed a new "RX7club of Florida."

http://www.rx7clubofflorida.com/content/

lessee...OUR efforts to form a club was termed "elitest, snobbery and stupid."

Now that you're wearing those very labels (and you know who you are), you can tack "hypocrite" on to it.

ronin do you own an 8?

My take on what happened to MRCCFL...

Well, lots of things happened, I decided to run for President and then withdrew my nomination. There were arguments over the finances and the "official" club account. Another person (Brian Smith) decided to run for president and was subsequently banned from the club after President Ian Savage thought Brian jeapordized the MRCCFL from hosting a Sevenstock type event here on the east coast.

In a nutshell, Brian had helped organize a caravan to SS in 2002. It fell through for numerous reasons and Ian said that the SS people looked down upon Brian for flaking out on the caravan. Brian contacted one of the SS organizers to see if what Ian had said was true. The SS organizer also said that they would not try to help with a SS type event here in Florida for 2005 because of the club's issues. Once Ian found this out, he banned Brian Smith from the club. Ian also didn't like the fact that Brian had mentioned he was going to swap a V8 into his RX-7, since it is a rotary club. Ian saw Brian as a threat to the club and banned him.

So, yes, power struggles and internal conflicts. I resigned my position as Secretary because I saw things not getting any better and wanted to move on to bigger and better things. Apparently Ian is still intent on having elections, but I don't see the point. There's now nobody running against him, and there weren't even enough nominations to fill all the positions.

I can't say what's going to happen next because I haven't seen a single email from Ian in over two weeks. It's a shame, because I had a lot of time and energy vested in the club and would have liked to see it flourish even when I left. Leaving was not an easy decision, but I know I made the right one. Life as a writer is much better, and the benefits are too. :D

I'm done running clubs, so I had nothing to do with the RX-7 Club of Florida. Ironically enough, that was the old name of MRCCFL. It was changed in 2001 to make future RX-8 owners more apt to join the club.

SikopathX 01-26-2005 04:00 PM

*sigh* it was quite clear that I was a major opponent to the start of an Rx-8 club, but with MRCCFL in the shape that it is, I suppose I can no longer oppose the idea. If you guys do get it started, I wish you the best of luck with it. Maybe you guys would be open to having rx-7's at your event? :) I would sure hope the 7 club doesn't make the mistake of banning 8's as well as r100', rx-2's, 3's, 4's, REPU's etc

SikopathX 01-26-2005 04:03 PM

Just noticed that like half this thread is missing....that's weird. O well.

rx8power 01-26-2005 04:18 PM

I'm in, but I would like to see a "Rotary only Club". I can't picture miself in a club with a ricey honda, acura or neon.

I haven't been to a meet yet, where anyone was not invited. For anyone to ban any other enthusiasts based on their vehicular preference would contradict the very spirit of the event, which is to bring people together.

I attended the meets in Orlando, Pensacola, Jacksonville and the Tail of the Dragon, and can say without hesitation, every single person I met who drove an RX7 OR an RX8 were decent, friendly folks and a pleasure socializing with. I had a great time at every event. I hope all of us can enjoy our cars and frequent get-togethers not only as rotary enthusiasts, but as friends as well. :)

DaveT 01-26-2005 06:25 PM

Well, Raz, if I were in Florida I would join. Good luck with it.

I'm not formally starting up another club here in Florida, heck no. The RX-8 Brotherhood of the Dragon and local get-together's more than fill my plate. Don't even need a club, really, to just throw out a notion for a bar-b-que and run with it. Spontaneous is good for America!

Rx8power.....where's yer office located at and what color is your 8? I'm gonna swing by there some day....BUT I WON'T BE ENLISTING!! bwaaaaaaa :D :D
