roebling seat day august 26--who's in?
Ok Guys,
I'm getting figetty(is that a word?). What I mean is--- dang it--- i want to drive on a track! It's time for our group to committ or get committed. So -- I submit that we start.
All in favor of doing the roebling track on the seat day of aug 26th-- talk about it here. I's a one day deal with lots of time on a differant track and it's only $150.
Come on who's in!

I'll probably be up for going to Roebling. I've already done a Seat Time at Roebling this year. It's fun and real laid back. I'm friends with Jon who runs it. I'm pretty sure I can get us all the $125 rate. This would be like a Panoz day (with no instructor).
Good call, Denny!

Ok Kurt Bob it seems as if you are our "contact". Would you mine calling and speaking with him and see if we can get that rate? I will research the places to stay etc for those who need it. Nabil--looks like plenty of room to do those 360's! I also like laid back atmosphere. I est a top speed on that staight of 110? I cant do the july Panoz--its my 20th wedding anniversary! Damn! I suggested Panoz to my wife but the response was not what I had hoped.
OK the ball is rolling!

Roger Mandeville has driven the Chevy Intrepid GTP car there which is a VERY HIGH downforce car. His speed on the straight before the 100 ft braking mark.......around 185!!!!
Talk about blurred vision, sheeeeeeit. Roebling is a great, fun track with a big appetite for tires. I most likely won't make this one but I know you guys will have a fine time.

If those are original tires, NO.

Very true about what Lego says. However you are in a dilema(sic). If you get new tires then they will not be worn enough. Therefore you really have to be concerned about getting the tires at the correct temp. The middle of the tire will be hot and the tread blocks will be cooler and you cn get blistering/chunking etc. Also it is going to be hot in Savannah in August. Track temps will be high. My suggestion---get some tire compound. Or get the new tires (R-compunds!) and treat them gently!
how many so far? Total of 4 right now--correct?
Lets get the word out guys!

Getting new tires in July will be fine. They'll be broken in enough by then. Hell, drive on them about a week before the event and get used to them and you'll be fine. That first bit of slickiness on the tire is what you have to remove.

Nabil,
If they do like my Falkens, they held great, then they started chunking. Just watch the outer edges, and make sure you don't see any missing 'paaarts'.
Glad to hear you guys are coming, I will be down in the Evo. I see @130mph with 200whp on stock suspension at Roebling (I had a VERY safe tune on the car when I made this run). I haven't been down with my new suspension, I will be curious to see. The key is getting off of turn 9. With stock suspension, I was coming off at @95-105, so with the coil-overs I am hoping to improve that by 5-10mph, which should equate to 135-145, if my boost leak gets fixed.
Please though, somebody give me a ride. My wife really wants a new track car, and I have been considering the RX8 for the stability, braking, and linear power. And, she thinks it looks more 'mature' than the Evo.
See you there.....

Well, the dyno I was on with the boost up only said I was doing 198awhp, which is why they call it the 'humbler'. :D On a two-wheel dyno, with the boost up, my car would probably be around 260 @19psi, and with 100 octane and good air, I could get 285 with 22psi. Some folks run 23, but I just don't have the nerve.
I had the boost down in the AM, shaking out the car at RR. I typically, turn it down to @17psi in the AM, because the air is better, and I don't want to risk detonation, just in case I have some moisture in my tank from the night before. I run the car, bring things up to temp, and then let the boost up gradually through-out the day, tuning it with the wide-band O2 in the car. Air quality plays a HUGE role on my car. For instance, Saturday at RA, I was lapping @ 1:50:00 pretty consistently last session. This was at 18psi, mainly because I was still learning, and I didn't want to get into trouble with more power. The very next morning, Sunday, the air was about 60 degrees, and the car was screaming in the low 1:48's. No changes to tires, suspension, or boost, just better air.
As for the Falkens, now they held up great for a while, then right before the 'went' they started chunking. My new ones haven't shown any signs, even though I ran them for 4.5 hours at RA and 5 hours at CMP.

I like the Friday format. It's easier to get a kitchen pass, if ya' know what I mean.
As far as speeds go, I've hit about 120 at Roebling. A lot depends on how fast you exit turn 8, which depends on how much of a "confidence lift" you take on corner entry. To sum up the track experience - it is a course with late apexes on every turn. It's very easy on brakes but hard on tires.
I'll take care of the details. Let's get a count of who all wants to go. I think we have plenty of time to make a decision; the last event I went to didn't fill up until the last minute.

Well, I saw the car today. I was just checking up on the progress and taking some pictures which I'll post on here soon. Amazing how the parts fit back to gether. I helped the guy put the rear quarter panel on today for about 20 minutes. We chatted about the car and his methods for fixing it. It's really cool how the rear quarter just pops into place and then get's spot welded in in 2 inch intervals. They got all the pieces new from Mazda so they fit great! They took most of the interior (all seats and some carpeting) out so that the welding will not damage anything. I'll easily get in back in about 2 weeks or so. Hopefully she will be ready when we get back from vacation! I have an autocross on the 10th and that would be a great time to make sure everything is in order and working well.
I'll join you guys again really soon. Can't wait!

Anyone have a sun-tent/canopy? It will probably be hot. Getting closer by the day. Late appex turns huh. I didnt like these o40's anyway. If anyone has understeer lurking around it sounds like you will find it here. Anyone thinking about a little neg chamber before this event?

I would HIGHLY recommend getting the camber done, especially on the left side. If you rotate the front tire religiously, you can equalize wear, however, I am not sure you guys run the same size tires all around. (sorry, not done my RX8 homework )
Also, you can count on my buddy Steve in the Stang, and maybe my two german folks in their TT and R32. The TT is a freakin monster. Even at low boost I think the thing makes 280whp.
Understeer is a problem here, my friends mustang was a pushing pig till he got some camber up front. Now, not so bad, but throttle modulation seems to be the ticket for you RWD guys.
There are some good vids of Roebling (CMP and Talladega too) at http://www.32vcobra.com, if anyone wants to go poke around. Also, you can find some vids of my car, before it got modded at TGPR.

You can get signed up at www.seat-time.com. I am sure Jon will honor any group rate that is worked out. I know there was someone here working on that. Just let him know you are going to be part of the RX8 crew in your email.
I will also shoot off an email to him, we were working on my corner-weights yesterday, and I hinted that you guys would be asking for one.
Take care...stf
