Today was a bad day. My car was driving fine all day until I was on my way home. A little more than a mile away from my house, my car starts to sputter like its misfiring when I go past half throttle. So I left off the gas some but it eventually starts to sputter again until I can't even touch the pedal. So then I'm coasting in neutral when the car just dies so I pull into an empty lot. I try to start her up but the car sounds horrible and barely worked hard enough to stay on. So I let it cool off for a few hrs. I come back and it starts but it sounds like ****. I get the car home but now I need to make a date with mazda.
Dude this time it really has me scared. I'm still under warranty but I can't necessarily return my car to stock. I don't have a spare cat lying around or a factory exhaust. My car came with neither of the two. So wish me luck. Ill keep everyone updated. O my did stick was smelling like gas when I pulled it out. idk what that means.

Dont pass judgement so easy cause the first quote could easily be ignition (ask me how I know). However, the second post does worry me a bit. If he has gas mixing with oil in the oil pan then not sure. I am not sure that is even possible. Water mixing with oil would make more sense but not sure about gas since oil is injected into the combustion chamber along with gas...there is no way for it to get back into the oil pan.
Maybe a cracked housing would do this? But if this was the case you should be seeing an oil leek or maybe coolant.
Side note...there is a guy on here that sells used Rx8 parts from wrecked Rx8's. I got a used Cat for $175 once and it had 24k miles on the CAT.

Turbo Clinic is parting out a Rx8 right now and im passing by there tomorrow morning for parts...while im there im going to see if that 8 has a cat and if so how much for it. Shane is on his way to mazda right now to speak with them about the car. They are apparently blaming the issue on a clogged cat ( ) and then after that claim, bad coils. They want to charge $120 for compression check under warranty. We'll see what happens next

No matter how hard they try to make excuses...If they give you a hard time about a part...Replace it with the stock item and insist they warrantee the engine. Once everything is stock and they try to give you BS like water in the gas etc...Insist on a phone call with Mazda MNAO. They will be forced to abide by MNAO's decission.

Shane; and his engine has returned to health after coils. i gotta give this round to you, you were right his coils were at fault. i believed it was compression but with the simmilarities in symptoms it was a overlooked mistake on my part. kudos Chris none the less; you 2 - me 0 (your first point is having a clutch) lol

Yes and no (I'm really taking a scuba class this semster). I did have my coils replaced so it runs fine now but to a certain extent. When cold it will like new just as it should. However after driving for so long. it will start sound like its gargling and i will lose some power. Idle becomes A LOT rougher as well. It stays like that until it cools all the way down again. It has happened everytime I go and drive.
So i shall be rummaging through the forums in the mean time. Any shared knowledge would be helpful. Sorry to thread jack lol

Are your spark plugs new as well?? Cables? If you have a whole new ignition system and it's running like crap during normal opperating temps but fine when colder it tells me there is a seal issue and temperature change is making it more obvious. It's not carbon either cause if it was it would happen when cold. If temperature is the interesting variable then I do think compression is the culprit.

I officially now think you have compression issues. This is exactly how it happened to me. Go to Mazda Pros and get them to do a compression check then take it to Mazda and they will most likely force you to pay a diagnostic fee to do the same compression check. I say this so you have proof that it's low on compression in case they try to lie or deter you from getting a new engine. I think Mazda Pro's charged me less than $100 (Maybe $60 or $70).

Went to autozone to read my codes and i got another misfire in rotor #2. I just pulled out all my spark plugs and cleaned and tested them all. I replaced them all in august except 1. I also replaced a trailing spark plug in the 2nd rotor since it looked bad.
The car still has a terrible idle although start up have gotten a bit better.
My cables are the magnecor brand and are about a year old so about 15000 miles on them. My next thing is to moniter my cooling levels.

P.S. next time if you replace plugs you should always replace them all at once. From what I've read so far the life span for the plugs start to die out in the neighborhood of 20k miles with spirited driving.
