Need an RX-8 mechanic!!!!
sup guys. im new to the site and im in need of a mechanic. i recently took my rx-8 to about 5 diffrent mechanics and all have them have no idea how to deal with a rotary engine. so i was hoping one of you guys would know a good mechanic that knows what their doing or could take a look at it yourself. i have an evap leak and a missfire, and im also lookin for a price range for the problem. any help would be much apriciated. im located in the prmbroke pines/ miami area. thanks!
|
nobody here knows a mechanic?
|
for the misfire change your spark plugs, wires, and ignition coils its about a 30 minute job.
pm me if you need help with it. |
Evap leak is more than likely your gas cap leaking.
|
both easy fixes
|
I dont know if you bought your car brand new but to let you well they have a recall out for the gas cap you may want to check that out could solve your problem...

Drive to West Palm Beach and drop it off with PettitRacing if you don't want to, or know how to, fix it yourself |

Nope engine light isnt on, but whenever the car is in gear i can feel the car shaking lightly, had ocean mazda check it, told me mounts need to be replaced. Wanting to switch out my exhaust is on my list also.

I agree with you, most are scams. I usually do everything myself, but i got my engine rebuilded with Rotarywerks, he does great job and is legit, not like every other mechanic down here. If you want his number pm me..

If they're flooding it, it's likely bad ignition components; coils, plugs, wires. |

The only thing I haven't changed are wires but they replaced coils and spark plugs then flooded it but I've done all the checks on them they're fine but thanks I'll definitely try out London motor works!

You checked them with a tester or timing light?

Yup and also pulled them out with the insulated holder about an inch to make sure they all had a spark
Weak battery, starter or bad grounding points probably next. Did you get a compression check? |
Yes it came back good I also got a new battery I don't know if I have the more powerful starter or not and where would all my grounds be the battery terminals are tight
|

If it's at the dealer, you should get a compression test. They may try to drain your bank account changing parts, and they're the only ones that I know of that test them. If the engine has bad compression, then you're wasting money changing parts. Tim London may have a rotary tester, he's knowledgeable about rotaries I've been told by someone he used to work for. |
Well its not there but I got a compression test at 65,000 and now it's at 80,000 I've never flooded it myself but someone backed into my front end the body shop flooded it fixed it and now I'm getting a p0300 and it's stalling after about an hour of driving I've replaced the maf cleaned the eccentric shaft sensor did the 20 brake stomp new coils and plugs new k and n box filter gutted cat and no vacuum on passenger side of engine
|
300 is a random misfire code, could be a lot of things that affects both rotors.
Do you have looms on your old wires to keep them separated so they don't arc? |
If it drives good for an hour, then that sounds like your fuel pump may be dying
Try to not let it get under 1/4 tank, that contributes to the pump getting hot. |

I don't think so. Right now it's just at a regular repair shop and the guy said he thought it was a computer issue but I don't think that's right but either way he won't touch it. So when I have time to get it back I'll definitely check up on that and let you know thanks for helping me out so much man
A possible weak fuel pump probably doesn't cause flooding. 0_o London's can probably get it figured out. Good luck! |
I'll try the wires first and see if that's it and if not I'll take it to londons
|
Need an RX-8 mechanic!!!!
Also you can check to see if your injectors are leaking. Sorry if I missed it, but have you pulled the plugs prior to attempting a start? Are they wet or dry?
|
They are dry also when I gutted the cat it obviously smelled very rich all the time and now that gas smell is gone? But I'm only getting that p0300 no running lean code which is p0270 I believe
|
you gutted the cat? that can cause it to run rich. If you don't want to pay all that money for a factory cat, I'd recommend the Magnaflow. great quality and it flows very nicely.

|
If it started at the body shop, chances are there's something messed up that they did.
What did they do to the body? |
A guy backed into my front driver side bumper I can't think of anything behind the bumper that would cause my stalling issue
