Nashville Sighting, and my trip through the Dragon's Tail
Saw a Sunlight Silver yesterday on my way to work in my sunlight silver, anyone here, looked like out of state plates, I beeped the horn and he waved. It's nice to get acknowlegement. Also over the holidays I went to the smokies and took US 129 out of Maryville through the Dragon's Tail into North Carolina, this was the most fun I've ever had in a car, if there is ever a SE meet, we should go there. It's really popular with motorcyclists, however there has been a Miata meet & S2000 meet that I know of. 318 Curves in 11 miles, put callouses on my hands. Then went around the mountain through Cherokee, then up 411 into Gatlinburg. I'd advise anyone that has a chance to go. Oh yeah, the road is full of switchback curves but the speedlimit in TN is 40 or 45 and in NC it's 55, be careful though, I went in the winter so you can see around the corners, and once at night where you can see the headlights coming. You wouldn't want to go 55 very much though, I just used gearing, no brakes, except maybe twice the whole time. Think I burnt a 1/4 quart of oil though. Here is a link to a site I found discussing the road, with maps and alternate routes.
Astor,
Count me in for any future trips. I haven't had my RX8 on the Dragon's Tail yet. The last trip was in my Alfa GTV6 about 4 months ago. Only got 420 miles on "Elvira" so far. This trip is a lot easier for me since I'm in Knoxville. You can also make the trip circuit by taking the Skyway which runs on South thru Tellico Plains, or continue on to Fontana. Great fun any way you do it.

I used to live in Knoxville, went to school, UT, and have been to Tellico Plains many times. So many people skip all the best parts of the Smoky's, I don't mind the drive, plan to come back really soon, will however watch the weather.
I don't usually jump in out of region thread, but I thought I had something to add.
I was on the dragon this past summer with a group POF 100 Prowlers. That drive is awsome. And all the roads around it put most to shame. Anytime you see a warning sign for curvy roads next 20 miles, you know you are at the right place!
Ever since I got my "8" I've been sceamin on how I can get back down to the Dragon to make the run! If you guys set something up this summer, be sure and open it up. I would think you would get lot's or responses!
Astor you are one lucky dude to have driven the "tail" in the "8"!

Yes, that has been the most fun I've had so far. I'll probably go at least 2 or 3 times in the spring/summer, I work in the music business so I get a lot of time off. I read traffic can be really bad at times. I had two weeks off at Christmas and my only reason for going to the Smokies was the Dragon. Ended up in Gatlinburg just because it's populated. I will reopen ahead of next time I go. I was also amazed at the quality of roads.
Astor, I may be the 'Sunlight Silver '8' you met in Nashville one morning several weeks ago. At the time, I was traveling into Nashville from the Bellevue area and another Sunlight Silver (might have been you) entered I-40, I believe, around the Charlotte Pike entrance. Morning traffic was heavy and we were separated by other drivers most of the time. After White Bridge Road, I exited onto 46th Avenue and you (assuming you were driving the other '8') continued toward Nashville . . in the left lane, as I recall.
I DID exchange a horn honk with the other 'Sunlight Silver'.
My '8' is a 6MT Sport, and I presently have about 7,500 miles on the odometer. I would REALLY enjoy meeting other '8' owners in the Nashville area. Assuming you are the driver I met that morning, your's in the 2nd Sunlight Silver I've seen in Nashville during the past 6 months and only the 3rd '8' I've seen. I've seen one black one in the Green Hills residential area and have seen one exactly like mine in the West Meade area.

Hmmm, I have a Titanium GT with spoiler, appearance and rotary packages; live in the La Vergne area, and work in Cool Springs. I think I've seen just three or four RX's in Nashville...always a treat when I do though!
Been to the Dragon twice in the Miata, once this July in my 8. The Miata w/e. It was great. Posted about some of the details before. Let a long time RX7 racer drive it up and back -he had a blast. And we got to take his wife along. Try that in a : Vette, S2000, 350Z, Ferrari, even a Miata, etc.
