Moroso - HPDE Sept 4th

NASA has a drivers school September 4th at Moroso in West Palm Beach. Link to their web page is http://www.drivenasafl.com/. Registration opens August 2nd and they usually fill up the first groups fast.

If you want to really learn to drive your 8 this is the place to go to. See threads about Homestead event last month.

If anyone is interested you must join NASA $35.00. I hope to see several of you guys there, and if you are going ask Barbara to have me assigned as your instructor. Moroso is my home track and I would love to show a new driver the ins and outs of High Speed Driving.

:D

hey, that's my job

Moroso will really require you to learn how to heel-toe, it may also require a change of brake pads as speeds will increase.

I will be there to watch as I personally don't like Moroso too much and would rather save for Homestead (my home track) in October :D .

Wants the matter Alex, afraid to go past 115mph. Moroso is a great track. Great speed as you approach a double apex turn 2. Around 120 down to 50. Back part of the track is extremely challenging and a place to lose lots of time.

You need to learn to drive all types of tracks. If you want one really hard on brakes and difficult try Sebring. When I had my M3 set up for racing I would go through a complete set of performance friction 90 pads on the front in one day. Turns 1 and 17 seperate the men from the boys with walls and tire walls to correct mistakes.

See you at moroso even if its only watch time. You can pay the passenger fee and I might allow you a ride or two.

um, no... :p

I did about a buck 40 in my old S4 at that track coming into turn 2.

I just like being able to actually brake at the last minute. Problem is there is no run off at turn two and I am more afraid of my wife than the tires and concrete wall that catches you should you brake too late after coming in at that 140MPH (maybe 125 in the RX8). That and Turn 7b with that silly concrete "curb" is annoying.

here I am pulling away from the moostang behind me :D

I've wanted to get into this for awhile..it sounds like a great oppurtunity to learn to drive..fast.

I checked the website but couldn't find anything on pricing...I think I saw it once before, but it may have been for a different NASA region. yea, I know it isn't cheap

i'd love to have an 8 vet as an instructor :D

I think NASA charges students $200 for the one day event. Best to call Barbara Nix at 239-549-3876. You have to join NASA $35.00 first. She can take care of that or just do it on line. Website is www.drivenasafl.com. Once a member and registered for event you can try to ask for me as an instructor. I will be there for sure. Feel free to call me if you have any questions. Cell 561-252-0443.

Actually, Track time is $225... But you need to pay for Jay to drive too ( ) , so until you are solo'd there is a mandatory $50 instructor fee.

In other words, you are looking to pay $275 for the first two events, maybe three

Just as a point of note to you guys. I am already committed to NASA to instruct at the next three events. What I am hoping for is that Pettit Racing can get their supercharger on my car in time for Moroso. They are building 3 or 4 more units for testing and I am in line to get one of them.

Just registered, asked Barbara to assign Jay as my instructor.

Jay, I did a similar schools with BMW CCA, driving my previous car 95' M3, how would you compare the track handling of the Rx8 to the M3?

On the street the only thing I miss is the torque & sound.

See you @ Moroso,

Igor

Igor

A lot has to do with the cars setup. I drove a 97 M3 before the 8, but it was setup as a track/race car. I had a really neutral handling vehicle. The M3 in stock form pushed like crazy. The 8 is much slower coming out of corners (no torque), but handles really well from what I can see. Once again, my car had the Eibach Pro springs and Racing Beat sway bars installed before I hit the track. I have no idea what it is like in stock form, except that others report its not bad, but it will push. Mine still does and it needs more down force in the front. I have my MS rear spoiler set at zero.

If this is going to be your second school, don't worry about the difference about vehicle handling, just go out and have fun and learn to drive. Learn how your car reacts to your inputs. Get seat time before making big adjustments to the car. It's always better to bring the car up to your abilities than to bring you to the cars.

Enough said on that. Call me if you have any questions or thoughts.

"It's always better to bring the car up to your abilities than to bring you to the cars."

I made this mistake with the M3: Modified the engine & the suspension to the max, the car had very high limits but was very hard to control (for me) at 10/10th...

The Mazda will stay stock for a while.

Alex:

I don't know if I would want to be in St. Augustine. I also don't know if I want to be in Palm Beach County next Saturday. Nasty storm out there...

Weather permitting, who is planning to be at Morosso on Saturday. First one in line, please try to hold enough spots for all of us based on the count that we get in reply.

At this point in time, I would go to any sign shop and have them mount numbers on a bigger sheet.

From PDC:
PDC Members and friends:

We are getting many inquires about the status of the 9/4 HPDE event at Moroso this Saturday due to Hurricane Frances. At this point, it's just too early to inform our registered drivers whether or not the event will be held as scheduled.

We understand your frustration and concerns, but the decision to hold track activities on 9/4 lies with the Moroso track, NOT with PDC.

Much depends on the path of the storm in upcoming days and the degree of risk to the Moroso area as the storm approaches. The track manager at Moroso has informed us that the track will make a determination on the weekend's activities by this Thursday, 9/2. We will inform YOU as soon as we get this information.

Until we know the status of the event we cannot answer your questions about re-schedule dates, credits etc. Let's take it one step at a time.

At this point the Moroso event on 9/4 is still on. We have a revised rain schedule to use if conditions are wet.

In the meantime, let's watch and prepare as this monster storm approaches. Make your hurricane plans and take the threat of this storm seriously. Don't let our Moroso event distract you from the importance of preparing for this Cat 4 hurricane if you live within a high risk zone. We just went through the impact of Hurricane Charley here in SW Florida a few weeks ago. I don't wish the experience on anyone!

We will send another group e-mail on Thursday regarding the status of the Moroso event. Updates will also be posted on the home page of the PDC website.

From PDC:
UPDATE: Hurricane Frances & 9/4 Moroso HPDE

Moroso informed us today (Wed) that all track activities at the Moroso track have been suspended due to the threat of Hurricane Frances.

Our HPDE school and lapping event for this Saturday, Sept 4 will be re-scheduled by Moroso as soon as an acceptable date becomes available at the Moroso track. The entry fee of registered drivers for the 9/4 event will be applied to the re-scheduled Moroso date. We ask all registered drivers for 9/4 to save their event information packets for Saturday's event for use at the re-scheduled Moroso event.

Just a reminder to those who made hotel reservations for Friday night to cancel ASAP. The number at the Fairfield Inn in Jupiter is (561) 748-5252
