Cool June 12th HPDE @ Homestead

All the info can be found here:
http://www.performance-drivers-club.com/

Registration is now open for this event. It is not as cheap as an Auto X, but bang for the buck... it can't be beat.

There are some issues I should address..
1.) You must have a NASA Pro Racing Membership
This Membership is only $35 per year and gives you a subscription to
Grassroots Racing Magazine (it's worth it just for the subscription)

2.) Anyone not having an SCCA/NASA/Other Race/Solo license is required to take the class/instructor

3.) There are few Instructors and only one student per instructor. Therefore the time is of the essence in order to save a position for yourselves.

Yay. I'm finally registered.

If the suns and stars are aligned properly, I might actually have my stage1 back from Maurice by then!

lol, yeah hopefully they'll be aligned just right and I'll have my helmet back from the paint shop

BTW: To anyone here who can't go but wishes they could... At 12:00PM we are allowed to give "tour laps". They're not at speed, but not too slow either

Come on by and visit, you can see what HPDE's are all about and perhaps take a few laps in our cars around the track :D

From the above, it looks like two of you have signed up for Homestead. Which one will be lucky enough to have me for and instructor.

Decided to go after Barb begged me to help out. Look for my silver 8. By than the CZ stage 2 will be installed along with Hi temp cat and Midpipe. This should help to allow more power out of turns and cut back on understeer by inducing power oversteer.

If either of you don't know how to heal and toe down shift learn before the 12th. It is absolutly necessary to keep proper balance during braking. Feel free to call me for advise before hand. I have been doing this for many years along with road racing.

Homestead is not a bad track on brakes, but I would recommend a track pad. So far I have only found Porterfield in Calif. to get pads from. I moving from their R4 compound to Hark Blues and will upgrade to drilled and slotted rotors. Keeping stock calipers for now.

See you on the 12th. bring me coffee....

I'll take you up on the call thing. I know Alex is good at it, but I still need practice. I do it on the streets as I can (safely) but I always apreciate more tips and such.

Genom:

Call me any time. you already have my cell. You also might want to contact John Schmidt at NASA and request me for an instructor. Keep practicing the heal and toe downshifts on the street. Once mastered there, it's a snap to translate to the track. Call if you want or I will see you at homestead.

Look for Silver 8 with number 57.

Actually there will be three of us

Yuri (Genom)
Bruce (davieRx8)
and myself

And Lou (LouRx8) will be there as "pit support" :D

I called up Porterfield and ordered new brake pads, I should have them put in tomorrow (was too lazy to do it today). I didn't do the R4 as I thought it might be over kill for as often as I go on track, instead I did the R4-S.

I'd love to have you as an instructor (you'll feel right at home in my Silver RX8 #27). I'm sure Yuri would too.

The three of us have Auto X experience so it should be fun

If you plan on street and track use, than a good choice. R-4 is a basic beginner track pad and I am now going to Hawk Blues Porterfield has made available to me.

Still waiting for Hi Temp/flow cat and mid pipe. Got computer from CZ (stage 2). Above should be in tomorrow and will install and report after dyno runs.

Now if I could only remember Homestead. Don't have videos, but do remember most of track. One session to bring up to speed should be enough.

see you soon...

By the way, let me know if you know anyone who needs a silver rear spoiler. Had mine sold, but the buyer blow his motor and backed out.

Sadly, I am not gonna be running that hard since I have the stock brake pads. *sigh*. Oh well, tires are more important right now, considering this rain is making the car very squirly.

The stock pads should hold up fairly well Yuri. Some cooling periods will probably help .

If you can swing it, some new fluid will help. I can help you bleed them and get you the fluid (Motul RBF600) cheaper .
