Exclamation I though I bout a NEW CAR!! I guess not

Well this is really disturbing to me since I'm a car nut and always have bought new cars for the simple reason that I dont trust who or how the used car was dirven and what was done to it....accidents....engine damage.....etc.....
This past saturday I took my 2004 RX8 to Carmax to get it appraised so i can get an idea on how the car's value was and if It had enough value to end my lease early by trading it in (maybe for a ms6). The appraisal came back at 16000$ for 2004 RX8 GT apperance pkg 6 spd with 20k miles but thats not the bad news the appraisal had some notes in the bottom saying that the rear end of the car was totaly painted (maybe involved in a lite accident or scratches) from the suicide doors to the back including the deck lid. This was news to me since I bought this car at Gunther mazda BRAND NEW!! and this was never dissclosed to me by any documentation at the time of signing the lease agreement. I went straight to Gunther after I left Carmax and spoke to my sales man who told me that he would ask his manager and distric manager for Mazda and get more info but that him or the dealer had no idea about this.
I did some research of my own and pulled the CarFax report on the car and nothing is on it, clean car.
I dont know if I am gonna get any further into the matter but it really bothers me and now more defintly want to get rid of the car, it just doesnt feel good to know that the car was repainted some time.

It's incredible how much this car has depreciated!!! in a year and a half went lost half of its value.
Thank god I leased it and not bought it because I would be in a deep hole and will need a crane to pull me out of it.

I'm gonna wait and see what Gunther has to say and then I'll go from there....I'm planning on getting a couple of shops around here to do an inspection on the car and also do some research on Florida Law for dealers on what they have to disclose and what not.

He may have been. Dealerships often quietly fix damage from shipping or sitting on the lot with contract guys or internal body shops. There are a couple of issues over on 6club where guys have had that same problem and the dealership eventually comes clean after enough pressure and confirmation from a couple of appraisels or inspections from other body shops. Usually they don't blend the paint (CRITICAL when dealing with anything that has a metallic nature to it) so it usually stands out.

Having been a manager of one of the largest auto dealerships in the USA I can tell you that the info from Carmax was incorrect to a degree. Their interest is to try to persuade you to trade the vehicle into them so they can purchase it from you at lower than the actual price.

Second, Usually the times you see something show up on Carfax is because if there was an accident where a state trooper or police dept was called and they in turn filed a police report then it gets reported to Tallahassee. That will appear on the Carfax record when anyone pulls an inquiry on the vehicle.

Third,
If the previous owner if there was one damaged it then if they themselves fixed it on their own then it would not have been reported and thus appear in a carfax inquiry. Unless it was an error from the assembler who put this car together to begin with.

You are going to have do some investigating...

On an endnote... Carmax is not always the best option when getting a vehicle appraised. they may not tell you the complete truth.

Thanx for the INFO.....I did some research and it all happened at the port where the car was off-loaded and it was scratched on the trunk lid and rear bumper so they had to paint the wole rear end to blend the color's.....I dropped the issue but I did make my point to the dealer and that way this wont bite me back when I return the car at the end of the lease.

Basically I just learnd that even on new cars you have to check them over and over before signing of the delivery papers or contract. For sure I will NOT purchase another car from Gunther Mazda.

Yea I found out not too long ago that my car had the front bumper painted a month before it was sold to the first owner (I bought it used at 13k miles). Mazda records can show you what has been done to the car since it has been built, as long as they are the ones to fix something. The service guy said that they will come off the truck or boat and have a scratch or something on them and the body shop will fix it like new. So far the car is 2 1/2 years old and has 26k miles on it and the paint on the front bumper looks just the same as anywhere else on the car, but notice that mine is black and probably one of the easiest colors to match.
