Georgia RX-8 Club BBQ/Cookout

All right guys. I know that there are some usual suspects in this group. And I know that we usually plan events revolving around track, getting track, watching track, and talking about track. But maybe it is time for us to branch out a little. Val had made mention of it, and a few others have expressed interest in doing something not related to track.

So how about we try to plan a Georgia RX-8 Club BBQ/Cookout? We could find a local state park that would have room for all of us to park our cars, it would provide good photo opportunities, and be a chance to get all of us together. It would be a chance to meet some of the other members that may not care about tracking their 8, or watching race cars go around a track. We could arrange to have any number of activities while we are there, a car show to encourage everyone to shine the 8 up really nice, or anything else that anyone thinks of. It could be a chance to bring the significant other, if they would not get bored too fast, and just be a chance for us all to hang out for a few hours one Saturday.

There are other clubs around the country that do things like this, and we have enough people in this group, that we could make it happen, and make it work.

So what do you guys think, I think it would be a lot of fun, and a good chance to meet some of the folks we have not met yet. We had a good turnout and a good time at the Photo Shoot at Andretti’s, I think this could be bigger. Let’s try to look at our calendars, and set a date for this, and then get to planning.

I'm not sure of this idea.

We probably have very little in common, but hell, I'll give it a shot at least once.

How about having it on Saturday, April 15, and celebrate getting taxes done!

Just as an FYI, this thread is also up over at the GA Forum, and Stone Mountain Park has been mentioned over there, and to me, Stone Mountain sounds like a great place for this to me. Does anyone have any idea if the park charges a group money to have access to a park area and the adjacent parking lot, or is it just the cost of getting in the gate?

I would like to look at doing this sometime in April, make it the Spring Cookout, and then maybe we can have another big gathering toward the end of summer, but I would like to do this early in the year. I know I have a couple weekends in april open, what about everyone else.

April 15th is actually the weekend I was looking at too, I don't have any plans that weekend, how does that sound to everyone else. No polls

Maybe in an attempt to reduce any confusion, we should route this to our GA Forum, I am just trying to get the idea out to as many folks as we can, and I know that not everyone is registered, or active on the GA Forum. But this kind of thing is the reason we started it.

I'll take that, I probably deserve it. Hey, at least I am discussing it, but that is for the other thread.

Right now what we need to do, is get people's attention on this, and see if they can make it, see if the 15th is good for them. and if it is, make an official announcment, and then commence planning, reserving some space at a park, and figuring out what and how much of what needs to be done. I appreciate your help, and look forward to helping plan this event.

Cookout sounds great. Stone Mtn park sounds great. For me the date is tentative as I have a previous committment that is also tentative for that weekend. If I can't be there in the flesh, I will be there in spirit.

Is there another weekend that works better for you, maybe this needs to Move to May. I realize Roebling is in May, but the goal is to get as many people as possible.

Hard to tell at this point. I would hate to make changes when any date is going to be tentative. Of course I will do everything i can to be a part of this.

Plash's kids are real campers. I met him at Mazcare one time and he had his two kids with him. They disappeared for a few moments and came back with wood/sticks to build a fire! Nice kids!

no, no dues. We will have none of that.

What I hope will happen, is that once we figure out how many people are coming, figure out how much the food will cost, and split it up. I will volunteer to go pick all the food up, and get it to the site. Others will bring their own favorites, any specialties they may have, and we might need a grill or two to cook on, just in case where we go has none, or ones that are left over from the stone age. I think on our Mountain run in a couple weeks, we are going to stop off at a couple sites near Lake Lanier, and see if they will work for us. If anyone has any suggestions for a site, please, by all means, speak up.
