Do we feel cheated?

What is the point of risking $ and pre-ordering a car in January having never seen or driven it, if we don't get it within in the first 4-6 weeks of it being a new car model?

We knew California would receive their cars first (geographically makes sense) but who thought we in the East Coast would have to have our cars sit there in Hiroshima for Over a Month waiting for a freakin' boat. This is bull crap! All the while reports suggest at least 2 boats have already left for Cali -- One arrived 6/17 with 200 RX-8's and one was loaded up a few days ago and left. Check out the VIN's If you are a Cali car with VIN's into the mid 2000's you car is on a boat. If you are like me 1933 has not even left for the East Coast.

No advantage risking our $ and joining this stupid pre-order program if they don't get us a car in June or July. Most East Coasters will have to wait well into August and maybe Sept. **** our boat has not even left yet!!

Anyone else feel this is a valid complaint?

What do you mean? The first ship is almost in FL. I live in MA, and my car should be in NJ next week.

Right, mark, but there are some of us who ordered the 1st day in January the pre-order site was opened, had cars built in May, but they didn't quite make the first boat to East Coast. Our cars are still sitting on dock with all the 2nd allocation, and some 3rd allocation cars.

I have a PAL that is only good until the end of June, but my loan officer told me to come in for an extension if the car is not here by then. I don't know how long of an extension they were gonna give me, but at this rate we could be waiting until August!! I'll be pissed if I have to get a new PAL at a higher interest rate.

Edit: I was first on the list at my dealership for a reason...I WANTED TO BE FIRST!!! Not second, third, or fourth - by months.

The first boat left with a few East Coast cars on it, largely west coast. Then instead of the 2nd allocation getting on a boat, they started to ship only Cali cars (2nd and 3rd Allocation) People who waited until April to order a freakin car in San Diego have theirs on a boat. I ordered mine on 2/11 and just missed 1st allocation and it is still waiting at the pier in Japan. I have seen VINs in the 1700s sitting in Japan while Cali VINs in the 3000's are on boats

I'm with you guys, because, my car is with yours on the wrong side of the globe. But at the same time I know their isn't much we can do. I wanted to be the first in my area with an RX-8 and was the only person to preorder in the first group. However cars are coming in to my dealer for other people who paid long after I did.

I can complain until I'm blue in the face and its not going to change the facts. My car will be here later in the year. I can either wait or I can look for something else. Since I don't want anything else I will be waiting.

I think the most iritating thing is that I know its built. But then their are people on this forum who put down money and Mazda can't find their order. I feel sorry for those guys but I'm glad its not me.

Maybe they will ship this week, then in a month and a half we will have our cars. We don't know the reason for the delay. Mazda could be holding waiting for better weather so they don't loose a boat load of cars (ala Volvo). Maybe the cars are loaded but the ship broke down and they are working to repair it. Maybe they figure they are going to sell more cars on the West Coast and are trying to get more money. I could go on but its not worth it. Sometime in the next 2 months I will get to test drive my car. Maybe before that day comes i will test drive a different RX-8 and see how i like it. I would like to say I would rag it to see how it performs since I won't want to do it my car before its broke in. Then again I'm a nice guy and I would not want someone else doing that to me just because I was out of town when mine came in.

I was really pissed at first but now I'm just living with reality. The only thing that could make things better is to find out their was a glitch in the shipping system an the boats been on its way for a week or more but they just could get the records updated yet (its a dream of mine). Worst thing that could happen is that the ship leaves today (in japan, our tomorrow) and sinks 90% of the way here. Then the whole process starts over. I guess I better find some wood to knock for that one.

Yeah, I felt much better after we went into contract for selling our house yesterday, and went BACK into contract on our new house (which we had previously cancelled due to not selling our old house). So, now we will be closing on the new place July 18, so I will have a nice, big garage waiting for my car whenever it gets here. I'm sure it's better this way, so I'm no longer angry about the car taking so damned long. At least I will have my own walk in closet in less than a month. No more sharing with the wife. :D

What don't you understand? What he MEANS is, there is a second boat loaded with VIN's (2000, 3000+ range) higher then ours (my VIN #1842 sailing right now to the West Coast, while ours are still sitting at the dock in California.

He has every damn right to be PO'ed. I am too. Our vehicle should either be on that first boat ready to dock at Jacksonville, OR AT LEAST, be on a ship that sailed BEFORE that second West Coast boat.

I said it before in another thread. It's totally unfair, to us buyers that pre-ordered in January/Feb, for Mazda to be shipping out cars to buyers that ordered as late as last month BEFORE us.

jtdwab,

That would be dream. I was thinking and HOPING the same thing. That's why I kept PM'ing Fubar with my VIN so he could check the status. Everything he found out about my car, "New-VIN", was contrary to what my dealer told me that the car has been shipped, "In-transit". I believe Fubar.

That would be pretty sad. My heart would just SINK. :p

Thank you, but RotoRooter already explained himself to me, to which I apologized.

THE FORGOTTEN VINS

We are starting an elite club guys. The FORGOTTEN VINs. To qualify you must have a VIN less than 2000 and still have your f'in car sitting in Hiroshima. After I get as many names with geographic locations and VINs I am going to write group petition/email demanding either immediate action or a significant compensatory good faith gesture (ie some free sh*t)

Let me know.

As if we are not angry enough, other threads now have report of at least a third boat leaving for the West Coast. I went from being the among the first 1000 to get a 8, to now being hopefully in the first 10,000. Is that significant to anyone else? To add insult to injury, nothing has reached JAX PORT yet. The boat left 5/30 and will take about 28 days. If that is the case, imagine ours leaves Japan (earliest) 6/30, that puts us clear into September before we get a car. West Coasters by then can just go into any Mazda dealer and probably pay less than MSRP for theirs.

PS: If you think I am over the top or doomsdaying everything, go back and read all my posts. My educated guesses have been right on the $. I told people in April, to expect west coast delivery a few days before July 4th, and all others to fully expect waiting until after July 15th. I don't post unless I hear info from a really reputable source or I study past posts and put together the info. I am starting to believe I am getting my Rx8 around labor day. This should not be tolerated by any on the below 2000 VIN club members

I will call my dealer to call the Mazda rep to ask what is the deal and what compensation can we get for being cheated. I believe that if our cars leave by the end of June. We can get them in August. But, I want it in mid July like I was promised!!

It wouldn't bother me at all if I had waited until March to order my car in 3rd allocation, rather than staying up until 4 a.m. when the preorder site first launched January 8th, followed by a nice long drive to Augusta, GA. Not even counting how long ago I made a deposit, and how long before that I got on the waiting list at my dealer.

And it is to the point of absurdity!!! Don't even look and the recent posts. FuBar's got in the 5400's made and waiting for a boat to the West Coast. I be it will be "in transit" before ours 1553 - 1941!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is over-reacting????

sensitive subject

I feel your guys' pain. I put my deposit down January of 2002 so the Oct 2002 is the nearest to mine I know of. There also exists the possibility that even the data that Ibufbar or budaman are able to pull up is not 100% accurate. I think Mazda is trying to get all first deliveries ready to be trucked from ports throughout the country so they arrive at dealers as close to simultaneously as possible. The fact remains though that as Ibufbar was posting the VIN status information that I was a little mystified as to how some that had build dates of 5/28 theoretically remained in Japan after some built on the same day or a later day. Part of it may just be that the boat only holds so many cars per vendor. It could be that after build completion some defect - paint, scratch, alignment, body panel not properly attached, I'm sure there are 100s of check points (I would hope at least) and if a car doesn't pass every standard that it goes back to have the problem corrected. That could delay it to beyond the time frame of the ship's departure enough to 'miss the boat'. I know it helps little, but please remember back in January Mazda estimated delivery in the June - August time frame. In a perfect world, the first deposits would have become the first orders, the first pre-orders the first VINs, the first VINs the first produced, the first on water, first in port, etc. But it's not a perfect world. Some dealers weren't or still aren't all that computer literate. Some try harder. Some are just clueless. There are just so many variables for a new program such as this. I'm absolutely positive this has not gone as well as Mazda had planned. The most obvious is the 6 emails we were all supposed to receive noting our car's individual progress through the system. I had the impression last year we'd be able to the progress online. The most painful is those who faithfully ordered in the early preorder days will not all receive their 8s before some who never even heard of the RX-8 until April or May of this year. Sad, painful, but a reality in this less-than-perfect world. I think it's safe to say that most of us (there are not absolutes) would rather our car arrive safely and be as perfect as possible even if it's a little later than hoped or even some later order. To you all with lower VINs who are waiting or don't show 30 or 20 status - hope yours arrives speedily! As a last resort, perhaps a nearby dealer (or even your own) will have nearly the exact specs you want arrive with no buyer on this end! It could happen...
