I think the consensus was that we would try to have *something* the first and third Saturday of the month.
My suggestion was the we meet at the Quaker Steak & Lube (a social) the first Saturday of the month (2:30 seemed to work) and have an event (tech session or drive) the third Saturday of the month.
By social I mean a typical car meet. A bunch of people standing around in a parking lot, RX-8s gathered and lined up, talking about their cars, then going inside to eat and talk about cars.
A tech session would be meeting at a location (someone's house or a garage) where we could help someone with a project. Bought a new exhaust but don't know how to install it? Come to the tech event and we'll lend a hand. Got those clear corners you always wanted? Bring em, we'll show you how to put'm in. Got trouble with your car that you can't figure out? Maybe someone has had the same issue and can turn the right screw. Know how to do the work but don't have that one tool you need? Maybe we can bring it. Want to help? Show up, we can use the expertise.
A drive would be to meet somewhere (like Quaker Steak & Lube) at, say, 10 am, take a 2 hour (or so) drive to a destination that would include lunch, and drive back by 3 pm. The destination would be pretty much pre-planned (in case others want to meet us at the destination but need to come from somewhere else) and the route would be chosen for fun twisties. (Being new to Charlotte, I'm looking forward to learning all those old back roads you locals hold secret!)
This way, we're meeting regularly (and predictably) but not too often, and doing a variety of car-related things. Once the weather warms and the sun sets later, we might switch the social to a weeknight around 7 pm for those that don't want to give up a weekend day (it's just too dark and cold now).
Communication through the Southeast forum on rx8club.com for now, but perhaps our own website soon(?).
I'd recommend that we have coordinators but no official structure and that anyone can offer their home for the upcoming tech session or volunteer to pick a dirve destination and route (then act as drive leader by heading the pack - with someone else who knows the way at the tail of the line).
I'm done rambling.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
