Now that's funny stuff.

MazdaratiRob 02-04-2007 08:38 AM

Looks like a good crowd showed up for the first event. Sorry I could not make it. Let me know when you plan the next one.

jwitzer 02-04-2007 11:49 AM

I think the consensus was that we would try to have *something* the first and third Saturday of the month.

My suggestion was the we meet at the Quaker Steak & Lube (a social) the first Saturday of the month (2:30 seemed to work) and have an event (tech session or drive) the third Saturday of the month.

By social I mean a typical car meet. A bunch of people standing around in a parking lot, RX-8s gathered and lined up, talking about their cars, then going inside to eat and talk about cars.

A tech session would be meeting at a location (someone's house or a garage) where we could help someone with a project. Bought a new exhaust but don't know how to install it? Come to the tech event and we'll lend a hand. Got those clear corners you always wanted? Bring em, we'll show you how to put'm in. Got trouble with your car that you can't figure out? Maybe someone has had the same issue and can turn the right screw. Know how to do the work but don't have that one tool you need? Maybe we can bring it. Want to help? Show up, we can use the expertise.

A drive would be to meet somewhere (like Quaker Steak & Lube) at, say, 10 am, take a 2 hour (or so) drive to a destination that would include lunch, and drive back by 3 pm. The destination would be pretty much pre-planned (in case others want to meet us at the destination but need to come from somewhere else) and the route would be chosen for fun twisties. (Being new to Charlotte, I'm looking forward to learning all those old back roads you locals hold secret!)

This way, we're meeting regularly (and predictably) but not too often, and doing a variety of car-related things. Once the weather warms and the sun sets later, we might switch the social to a weeknight around 7 pm for those that don't want to give up a weekend day (it's just too dark and cold now).

Communication through the Southeast forum on rx8club.com for now, but perhaps our own website soon(?).

I'd recommend that we have coordinators but no official structure and that anyone can offer their home for the upcoming tech session or volunteer to pick a dirve destination and route (then act as drive leader by heading the pack - with someone else who knows the way at the tail of the line).

I'm done rambling.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Hey, that Ti-Gray looks familiar :cwm27:

Guys,

I sold my RX-8 a year and a half ago. I live in Cabarrus Co. You don't mind if I show up with my latest creation do you?

danlewisnet 02-07-2007 06:30 PM

Well, it's not exactly an 8, so no you can't come.

But... uhhh - park on the end, give me a ride, and I'm okay with it... lol

jwitzer 02-07-2007 07:58 PM

One change to what I wrote:

Even though the 18th is the 3rd Saturday in February, we agreed that it's probably a bit too early to plan an "event" and we felt that doing a social that Saturday and the first Saturday in March would help build membership enough to support an event the third Saturday in March. So come on out to Quaker Steak & Lube at 2:30 (do we want to adjust this time?) near the Concord Mills Mall on February 18th!

Yes, I vote for allowing all RX-8 fans to join in, no metter what they drive (even if it's a Subie!). And Herkypilot, you drive my absolute favorite car of all time, right down to the color/stripe combo! Is that a 427 CobraJet in there???

OnRails...TOLD YA! (He thought I was lieing, folks.

Honey, you still jonesing for my ass...er...wing???

jwitzer 02-07-2007 10:49 PM

Dan,

By "J" do you mean me?

I didn't get any feedback on the cards I gave out at the meet.

What changes would you make? I assume I should wait until we have a website to put on the card...

Etc, etc, etc...

Good job on getting organized guys!!!!!
Maybe we can get together sometime.

Tennessee Valley RX-8 Club
RX-8 Brotherhood of the Dragon

Cheers,

Rob

jwitzer 02-10-2007 08:41 PM

Rob! Brother! Haven't heard from you since the Dragon...

Did you ever fix that problem that made you a rolling roadblock? Oh. Wait. That was Ryan's tires on his Subie in front of you!

So, someone get out a tape measure. Is the Dragon closer to our chapter or Weasel's? Of course we'll share, but ownership must be established.

So where do you suggest we meet?

jwitzer 02-10-2007 08:42 PM

Honey,

You can have both.

danlewisnet 02-14-2007 02:55 PM
