Atlanta-Autocross-August 7-G.c. Fairgrounds
Just to let you guys know again, more autocross fun at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds on August 7th. I am already signed up in STU and spyder_doois in SM. Come on out and have some fun.
Register here: http://www.joesvideos.com/scca_reg/view_event.py?id=29 Splan, do they usually have the run group order correct on the event details page. Last time, Nabil was in STU, and it was a morning group. When I registered it said STU was white run group, which puts it in the afternoon. I just want to make sure it is right. |
you guys running morning or afternoon?

What class will you be in, or are you still eligble for novice again? |
They are usually pretty easy to figure out, but the calendar of events should have the correct run groups in it.
|
I guess I'm still running afternoon in SM right?

Jamie Got all my numbers and class letters today, now I can't wait to get the car out there. Sways should be in by this weekend too. Should be fun. |
which bars did you get?

Jamie Based on recommendations from those that already have them. |
So are you on stock springs # shocks and RB sways? That may be a pretty good combination. I really felt my RB sways made more of a difference than the RB springs did on my 8.
|
woo hoo!! I am now signed up! lets see if I can actually make it to this one!!!

AutoX Aug 14th Homestead

OK. The Miata is back in service. Oil leak solved, timing set. Couple minor things to worry about but nothing that will keep us from racing. Now I have a 60k mile miata instead of a 135k mile one.
See you guys out there... |
Did you replace the engine or get a new Miata?
|
Replaced the engine and a few other items that were getting old (heater hoses, some gaskets, etc...). Took 5 days of after work time and all day Saturday... but it runs great. Even better than before. I was a bit concerned when I talked with Scott at Mazcare and found out he knew the guy I bought the engine from and he was worried that I got a fair deal, but everything seems fine.
I really enjoyed it. My only remaining issues are an idle problem and a bad motor mount. Maybe I can address these at Mazcare before this weekend. |

By the way, are you in Novice or not? |
I am still in novice. I signed up for the afternoon run even though there is an 8 in the morning novice section. I just hope nothing happens to where I will have to cancel, like an increase in gas prices!!
|
Almost here...
|
took me 5 minutes to find the thread that disappeared.
I just wanted to let everyone that is registered for the event this Sunday, that the run groups colors changed, and there will only be 4 groups this time. http://soloatlanta.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=333 for those that are not on that forum too. |
Yeah, you guys should check your run groups... I am in Blue now. I think you guys in STU are RED.
|
^^yeah, I am in red now, but it is still the second afternoon run group. This change is going to result in a lot more track work time, and more downtime between runs. We will see if it is efective.
|
WOOOO!!! Finally!
1st place in CSP today! It wasa great course... I saw Don, Travis and Wes out there and I know Jamie's car was there but I didn't see him. Don showed me some great shots he had, one with a cone flying in the air behind a car that looked awesome. I snagged a ride with Wes, who did great on his first run but had to jet home before I could see anyone else race... |
yeah we couldn't make it there in time to run SM so we all ran Time Only. Maybe I'll have time to ride with yall and everyone is more then welcome to give me pointers on driving the track. Looks like we are all headed to Alabama this Sunday for the next autocross event. Anyone else going? Thanks to SilverEIGHT for taking all the pics too.

What class will I need to registar in since I have the rev-i? I want to registar and get numbers and all that stuff just incase I can make it this coming weekend.
|
I think STU will be the class for you... isn't that right T.R.?
As for this weekend, who is planning to go? I am on the fence right now... I want to go but will have to juggle some obligations around to do it. |
I would like to go but I might be short on the funds. If I have the money then count me in.

I will be too busy burning it up at RA, so I will not be there.
Wes, I think the intake forces us out of most classes, and drops us directly in STU. It is hard as hell to compete with those damn STI's, the are just so fast. And in the rain, there is no competition. One guy ran a 48, which was really close to the best time that was set in the dry conditions. It was fun anyway, Don got some good pictures, tells me I really need my sways, and some coilovers. That would help, lot's 'o body roll. By next season I will have those, and a few other little toys. WE will have to see the difference. |
How unfair. A slow ass AT running against an STI just because of an intake that may give me 2hp which is still far below a manual and and STI in hp. Guess I should just run TO and compare my times myself. I don't really need a little trophy sticker. The fun is when I am out on the course.
I too noticed a lot of body roll in the pics of my car so I guess a set of sways and coilovers should be in my future as well, as well as ram duct, tires, mazdaspeed strut bars, tinted windows, and a torque converter (if anyone will make an aftermarket one to get better acceleration times) |

Sticky tires would be great, but STU has to run street tires. |
Early Results
here are the preliminary results from yesterday, official will be in a couple days
splan8: 1-DNF 2-53.656 3-52.311+1 4-51.671 I think he ran moslty in the wet conditions. Whenson417: 1-58.288 2-57.940 3-58.274 4-60.481 he got three good dry runs, then the wet hit on lap 4, but it was good enough for #4 of 9 in the novice afternoon group. We both got to run around in the rain, and big puddles. spyder_doo: 1-68.428 2-60.603 3-56.849 4-DNF, (no DSC :D ) trhoads: 1-60.440 2-57.396 3-56.312 4-56.738 that was good enough for 3rd in STU, glad Nabil was not there. Up against two STI cars, one of which wins every event. So I am happy. |

The sways are different on my car than with the GT setup? What the hell was I think because I never thought of that. I thought the sways would be the same on all the cars and it was the shocks and springs that may be a little different. I think what I would like to do is maybe get the Racing Beat sways and lowering springs and see if Charlie has a set of GT shocks sitting around when I get around to doing it all.
As far as my times go, I changed my tire pressure from 32.5psi to 35 psi after my second run based on some advice from an exprienced M3 BMW driver that was just ahead of me. Unfortunately I did not hear my 3rd lap time and it was not recorded on the tables because the Fmod cart was passing by the tables on the track so the people couldn't hear the times. I did notice that my car wasn't handling as well at that PSI so things just got worse when the rain hit. Well lesson learned but it was a blast plowing thru the course!!! |
How did I miss this sticky! Man, I'm really slipping up these days!
Spyder_doo & whenson417... did you guys see the images? |

I did see the images and I thought they were great. They showed that I had more body roll than I thought so with a little tweaking of the suspension I could definately post better times.
|
OK, I am going to Tally this weekend, taking a trailer and such. Racing in the afternoon. See you guys there...
|
glad to hear that someone else is making the drive. See you there. I'm racing morning so maybe I'll be able to catch a ride with you this time.
Jamie |
Well that course was so amazing. That was the best track I've ever had my 8 on so it was a different experience. How'd you end up doin Splan8? Do you know when they'll have scores up? You didnt happen to get any pics or video did you?
Jamie |
No pics or video, but some kind of mild heatstroke. I really had a good time, but probably only got 3rd place.
I had to use 3rd gear the WHOLE way around. I think the 13" wheels are just too small for something like that. The tires did very well though. My best time was an "88.something". Not good enough for first. THere are pics posted on the SOLOAtlanta.com forums. There are pics of you in there... |
Yeah I saw you get the 88 something but I wasnt sure if you beat that. That miata of yours sure does hug the turns really well. I'll check the website for the pics, if you find them before me please link them to me.
Thanks, Jamie |
Man I wanted to go but I missed the registration. I didn't realize that the cutoff was Friday at noon or so and I was thirty minutes late when I went to registar. Maybe next year!!
|
They messed up the online registration. It ended 24 hours before it should have. They were letting people register on site. It was lonely being the only 8 there.
Jamie |
Well if I would have known that I would have made the trip but I wasn't about to drive all the way out there not knowing if I would get to run or not.
What place did you get in this one? |
all results and info for the events can be found at:
http://www.soloatlanta.com/forum/index.php not a bad idea to be a member there and keep checkingback before events. |
Registration is now open for the September 4th autocross at AMS. Anyone else going, I am already signed up.
|
I'll be there
|
I will be there as well...
So have you gotten your sways on yet, T? |
