Then they performed the compression test and barrel test which according to them past the test. I have not seen the report yet but I will pick up the car on Saturday and get it tested one more time with Mazda Pros (Let's say that will cost 1/10th of what Mazda wanted...LOL!) just to make sure. If Edgar tells me it looks good now then I'll accept it.

I just hope that marbles in the can sound goes away now that the engine is supposedly in good working order!
These Mazda guys are really trying my patience! I picked up the car this Saturday with hopes the car is fixed and I drive it for like 20 + miles. GUESS WHAT ladies and germs?? Yeap, you guessed it the car still runs like ****.

I am still getting a very loud metal wood pecker sound from the driver side front when reving past 6500 rpm under high load. So I go back to Mazda the same day and return the car to them...Very patiently I might add. They very nicely state "...it sounds like detonation...Was it loud...". I responded with yes it is very loud...So much so my friend can hear it in his car and he was driving far behind me. The Service manager then agreed to take the car back at no extra cost to continue diagnosing the issue.

I get a call today and my representative stated there Master Technician of 20 + years says I am putting bad gas in the car! OMFG! Seriously...bad gas...you mean I've been putting bad gas in the car for the past 20k + miles? Because thats how long this issues been happening for. I've turned the car in several times for power loss and always got it back with this issue. Anyways, I ask for a meeting with the warrantee manager but my rep offered for the Service manager to call me so I agreed.

Meanwhile I talk to my brother...LOL...He too is a Master Technician of well over 20 + years and he tells me that sounds like BS. He knows me well enough to know I take care of my engine. So he tells me that part of the inspection they are required to take a sample of the gas from the fuel rail. He also says you can add seafoam to the tank of gas which will absorb any moisture (I.E. bad gas). He advised me to do all of this and save all my receipts. He also mentioned that he would gladly provide his ASC Master Tech Cert ID to Mazda if they needed more proof that this engine needed replacing.

So I called Mazda and asked they test the fuel. Ofcourse they resisted stating its not normal procedure for them to test the gas but after further insisting my rep agreed to forward the request to the service manager.

Pending call back from the Service Manager.

maybe your car is too clean so therefore it is impossible that your engine is bad. im just trying to use dealership logic here

Update:

So I think I mentioned before that they are trying to blame detonation to bad gas. Apparently I've been running with bad gas for the last 20,000 miles...LOL! So they pumped all the gas in the tank out and put in a couple of bucks to test the car. Mind you I specifically told them they have to GET THE CAR HOT in order to replicate the issue. By hot I mean don't just let the car idle for a while then run it for 5 minutes and determine its ok. I mean let the car idle for a while then go on the highway and do several high load runs up to 8,000 rpm. I guarantee after the 4th run or so the noise will come back and not go away for the rest of the day.

I told them all of this but did they listen?

NO!

So they warmed it up did one or two runs and called me saying it's fixed...It was bad gas. I was furious and told the rep that instead of arguing on the phone I would show up in person. I get there on Saturday and went past the service rep and talked to the Service Manager instead. I first told him there are three things in this scenerio that could lead to detonation 1) bad ignition, 2) Poor fuel, and 3) the motor. I know we are missing timing and other computer related items but it's always had the stock ecu flash (latest recal flash) so this should not even be a consideration. After I told him that I said I do not appreciate your service rep's telling me a motor has notthing to do with detonation...Thats like saying a motor has nothing to do with air. He insisted they checked everything they could and that they did not want to push the car too much due to the transmission issues. I replied with "You do not need to shift the car to replicate the problem...You need the car to be in high rpm load for it to happen". They could simply drive normally until they get to the highway and do 3rd gear pulls at high load. NO NEED TO SHIFT! I finally said I am taking the car but be prepaired for me to come back within a couple of hours cause this crap will happen again.

Guess what kiddies?! You right the **** is still detonating...and LOUD! How is this dang motor keeping compression is beyond me! Now he did say if it was still happening that he would call Mazda corporate to see if they could send a technician with more rotary experience out.

This is where we are at...I left it at the dealer the same day and this is week 2 of the drama.

Update 2: They placed a call into there Mazda support line. Pending response.

In the grander scheme of things I guess the experience was not too bad but to be honest I should not have gone through the expense of getting this FINALLY resolved.

So here is the final outcome of all this:
$450 - Ignition parts (My mechanic sourced the parts since Mazda wanted $600 +)
$450 - Ignition labor install (Mazda)
$200 to $300 - hoses and fluids (Mazda)
$0 - New motor

Personally I think Mazda should have applied the dollar amount already spent to the hoses and fluids but whatever...It's on it's way to getting done!

Should I?

Should I...

- Replace my transmission and go mod happy? (Syncros are bad)

- Trade in the car and buy a different car?

I was thinking the same thing...Before engine they wanted to give me $5,500...After closer to $8,000 - $10,000.

What if I got a v8? (Put's flame suit on)
