We need more information. Where did you go, what did they tell you, ETC? The ECM/PCM is the computer for the engine if I am not mistaken. Any number of things can cause a CEL (Check engine light) but unless you take it to a mechanic and get an exact description of what the CEL code is we can not help you.


In most cases the mechanic in question is trying to rob you blind! In most cases the the wire harness is dirty and needs to be cleaned. What happens is the coolant overflow tank is directly above a portion of the powersteering harness. If for any reason the coolant boils over and spills out the tank (as designed) it will spill onto the connectors for the power steering. Do a search for this on the forum they have a relatively cheap solution available that either involves cleaning the connections, sodering, buying a new wiring harness, or relocating the overflow.

Any combination of the above but in many cases cleaning worked.

It passed! According to Mazda!

I don't know why I just don't believe them! The car clearly feels under power but they insist it is running fine. Mind you this is after they insisted I spend $1,000 to fix the ignition...That's right...Coils + plugs + wires + labor = $1,000!

Then they performed the compression test and barrel test which according to them past the test. I have not seen the report yet but I will pick up the car on Saturday and get it tested one more time with Mazda Pros (Let's say that will cost 1/10th of what Mazda wanted...LOL!) just to make sure. If Edgar tells me it looks good now then I'll accept it.

I just hope that marbles in the can sound goes away now that the engine is supposedly in good working order!

talk to mike at del ray mazda, took my 8 in last week, they gave me a free compression test and made sure i fail. next engine is on its way

and holy **** you spent 1000 on a tune up!

 

OHHHHHHHHH, no dragon.... No WAY would I spend that much for a tune up. My parents were dumbfounded and didnt know what to do. I called the service rep and said what's what. I had my step dad do the tune up off parts I bought on here, and another site for around $220ish.

I just re read the quote, and not sure if this is directed at me, since someone else is talkin about compression tests.....

naw, no secret handshake but some service ppl ive spoken to at other dealershits didnt even want to do the compression test for me cuz they said it'd be a waste of my money. they did it free for me at del ray mazda...
